I believe there is still one analog channel being broadcast from Mexico that was alive for a very long time since the US analog shutdown. You could still pick it up in this area (Southern California) but it was very weak. A year or two ago, I believe it's power was shut off. The vintage TV repair guys in the So Cal area (Shango & jpdylan) used/use it (if lucky) for their testing. Not sure if it's still alive.

Haier is a pretty good quality Chinese producer of products. They have collaborated with a number of "big names" in the consumer goods sector and produce products using licensed technology from these collaborations. I had a "high end" Asko front loading washing machine that died after 2 yrs and 4 months. I got a Haier to replace it for less than it was going to cost for the repairs to the Asko. The Haier is a great replacement and is as good as the Asko it replaces.

I have been to the owner of Haier home. He actually lives in Canada. How do I know that? I was setting up his TV service, and I have a small Haier monitor for registering set top boxes when there are no TVs in the house. I pulled it out of my bag to set up his service and he got all excited and told me it was his company in China. (yes the guy in chinese) Told me that they were the 5th largest manufacture of LCD TVs in the world. You should see his house, and the cars he has. Lives on a golf course.

I have the exact same one, after seeing your video I dug it out after it was tucked away for some time. And yes the tactile rubbery finish had turned to a sticky goo. Did what you did and that pretty much cleaned it up. Charged er up and it plays fine. The only thing I don't remember putting it away with cracks in the plastic body. I may be able to glue it back up with methylene chloride. This solvent works well on styrene type plastic. That is if the goo didn't get into the cracks.

Beautiful old TV with good clarity. These do wel with die hard campers that have small spaces and use only 5-12v appliances that run 4-10 Watts max. I have a similar model by AGFA with a little bigger screen and a builtin DVD player. No remote, so it is a hassle to operate sometimes. It charges at 10 Watts and when charged it uses only 6 Watts to operate but runs 4 hours on a battery charge. I got mine powered on a simple solar system with a 30 Watt panel and 8 LifePO4 cells (12.8v) with passthrough charging running all day if daylight is sufficient. I use it to watch CNN all day through a SATBox via AV in. These are marvels.

Most of the television stations have standard definition and high definition channels and and hence the reason why you think you have doubled in channels. We had the same thing that happened in 2014 when Australian television stations re shuffled and moved there transmitting frequency. Gone is band 5 and as you said to make way for future exspantion ( mobile phone ?? ) As for digital reception a lot of problems are caused poor quality or cheap cable and fittings. I never use RG59 anymore and the only cable i use is RG6 Quad cable ( 305 mtr pull packs ) and has a solid dialectric, that and a cooper clad steel wire as the centre signal wire, this cable also had very good shielding . The same with the fly lead, these i make out of the same RG6 Quad cable. Poor cable can also account for missing channels

I find it interesting how some TV's, & DTV converters show the image of a Satellite Dish, instead of a TV antenna, in the channel scan menu. I wonder if that has something to do with them being made in countries where using a satellite dish is the only way of receiving TV signals. In the US, OTA TV was reduced all the way down to Ch. 36.

Just like mine. (Haven't taken The battery cover off) The antenna that came with it does not pull in any stations. I live too far from broadcast stations and only an outside mast antenna works. The little tv works with that, but it's not portable if it has to be tied to a cable to work. That's why i bought it (2011) because it was a digital TV. I need to try elbow grease again on mine. The sticky stuff is stubborn. I also have a Haier 6 inch box fan, and Haier Chest freezer.

That soft-touch plastic is disgusting. Finger oils break it down in no time, so of course every remote is made from it. Dell is still selling professional-grade laptops with the palm rests coated in the stuff.

When I worked in the TV business we used to have a spray called dulling spray. Designed to reduce reflectivity of highly reflective surfaces such as brass or steel or something because the television light of course would reflect into the cameras and the cameras of the day all use pickup tubes which flared like crazy plus it could damage the tubes we had to spray that stuff on everything. you can imagine how upset musicians were when they came into play in the studio and we had to spray their saxophones or trumpets or guitars down with going spray so they wouldn't flare out on the cameras and then they had to clean them up after they weren't very happy.
