Exactly! I went to my Mexican friend's birthday party, although she did a more traditional American style party, the one thing I noticed that she did differently was that she didn't make a huge thing about opening presents, it wasn't an event, she just opened them by herself as people were leaving. So you would say that's just her culture. But then wouldn't it be American culture to make a big deal about opening presents? We do have culture, it's just not as acknowledged as other races

@@missnicthomas Yes. Travel helps a lot and I definitely encourage it. But they have to also be the kind of tourist that immerses themselves in their travels rather than just taking photos and saying "guess where I went and what I saw" otherwise one might never understand the culture of where they have travelled in any way.

@@SnowyMount10 I'm not sure if that's a Mexican tradition (Idk myself personally so I can't really speak on it). I get what ur saying though and I agree that there certainly are cultural differences and that it's generally a thing for gifts to be opened in front of guests in American tradition. Race just isn't that significant when it comes comes many people in the world today and that's what bothers me so much when it comes to people bring so fixated on it. For example, my ethnicities and my race don't exactly align. I've had ppl bad mouth one of the ethnicities that I am right in front of me, being totally unaware of the fact that what they're saying applies to me because of how I look and when I say something they're always left looking and feeling stupid in the end because that's what they are when they can't look past something that is for the most part only skin deep. Ethnicity and nationality pertain more to cultural influence than what race does. Race is defined by skin color, hair color/texture, build/bone structure, etc. Ethnicity pertains to a person's ancestry/bloodline or language even. For example: a white person that has strong native blood of some kind but does not appear to. White being their race, native being their ethnicity. Then there's nationality and that pertains to a person birthplace or where they hold citizenship status. Cultural influence is passed down through ethnic traditions in families or where u have grown up. Hence be why I say ethnicity and nationality is more important than race. Race just doesnt really explain culture very well. For example: Some white ethnicities are: German, Italian, English, Dutch, Irish. Some black ethnicities are: Kenyan, Nigerian, Somalian, Congolese, South African. And so on and so forth with other races also. All of these have vastly different cultural differences despite their race being the same. So race is kind of stupid and if a person is obsessing over it they're also stupid in my opinion as they can't look at things on a deeper level.

@@Kate-gf1wl as a black woman I can tell you I literally do it only for the protective nature of the style. My natural hair is tucked away into the added hair. My hair journey is my own. I happen to be the kind of person who'd rather just wear their own hair. That being said, as a person of a certain age I vividly recall a time when most afrocentric hairstyles were not acceptable to wear. Dread locks on black people only recently became acceptable. But it was considered fun when young white people wore them. That's the history of black people having issues with others being accepted with certain styles. Like I actually remember being surprised the first time I saw a black person working at the bank with braids. I'm not of the younger generation so idk how they feel. But I know I've never seen white kids get their hair cut off at sports torments. I know the military updated their rules to include styles that are typical and convenient to black women. So while most black people don't really give a damn how others wear their hair, it doesn't take away from the reality that many of us are new to feeling accepted as our selves, and there's literally still a fight over the acceptance of our hair. Sorry that's alot 😆 🤣

@LadyASolveg the important take away is to continue to move forward and stop living in the past. Tattoos are now acceptable in the work place too. Also, dreads on white people were never considered fun. They were considered dirty hippies and usually didn't have jobs. So I don't know where you're getting that information from. Also, different cultures do currently wear braided or dreadlocked hair. It's only now acceptable because discrimination against a hair style is considered discrimination as a whole. My family wears dreads. We're indigenous. Most people call me white because I'm a light skin native. They say I can't have dreads because I'm white. They don't know what they're talking about. Culture is meant to be shared. The discrimination needs to stop on all sides.

The black people with blonde hair are called Melanesians. They are of indigenous Melanesian and European descent and are not of African descent. They are located on islands near Australia. If there are Africans with natural blonde hair, that do not have white relatives, they likely are a product of the enslavement of white people during the Barbary Slave Trade. During that time, white women were sold and bought for breeding purposes in North Africa. Also, while black people have wonderful culture, I hate the narrative that white people don't have culture. The thing is that our cultures were melted together. If you go back to the countries of origin, there's a ton of culture. If you look at some countries, a lot of culture was stripped away through the years to make us more acceptable by the powers of the time period. Love and accept each other as equals period...culture is beautiful, and uniqueness is amazing. Let's support each other and stop trying to create division. Accept and love yourself and each other for who you/they are.

Also, I know we make fun of them for lack of natural rhythm but they’re uncannily good at improvising dance moves to the lyrics. The way she twists herself trying to explain her thinking is sort of sad. She has a point, African American women in particular have taken braids to a new style by adding in coloured hair and finding new ways to braid (bald braids come to mind) and they should get credit for that. But when I was in high school in the early to mid 2000s I remember girls coming to school after being on holiday in Bali and they'd have braids with beads on the end that they got done by Indonesian women literally while sitting on the beach. No one ever got offended, certainly not the Indonesian women who were often gaining much-needed extra money from this aspect of tourism. From what I remember those braids were box braid style braids.

She was an abuse victim locked away in a room her whole life. She didn't know how to speak or walk or eat like we would assume one raised in America would. When they let her out she died within weeks from the onslaught of germs that she was never introduced to. Culture is quite literally everything from the language you speak to the thoughts you have. It's what you eat to how you eat it. It's everything from the immune system that sustains you to what's most likely to kill you in the end. One can not function without it.
