Something interesting to note about the original film was that the production itself was quite tense and tough, which only added to the overall grimy and unsettling feel of the movie. For example, there was 110 degree Texas heat during the climactic dinner scene, and the filming lights meant all the food on the table quickly rotted, and the room's poor ventilation made the reek even worse, raising it to genuinely health-threatening levels. Filming for 27 straight hours led to several of the actors suffering genuine Sanity Slippage and taking Tobe Hooper's direction as meaning they really were their characters, not exactly the result you want when most of them were playing cannibalistic murderers. (The DVD commentary has Gunnar Hansen eerily recounting how he genuinely wanted to kill Marilyn Burns for a few seconds after being ordered to by his "brother.") Edwin Neal, who played the Hitchhiker, said that making the film was more miserable than his service in Vietnam and said that he might kill director Tobe Hooper if he ever saw him again.

That was definitely the beauty in that movie. There was a trailer for the remake that was banned from theaters for same thing. I got to witness it n it was awesome. Completely pitch dark nothing on the screen. It was only audio. The surround sound of the theater was what made it work. It was a girl running n you could hear her being chased. It being completely dark n with the speakers it sounded like she ran past you at ur set with the person chasing her in tow. Then a couple pulls of a chainsaw, once it crank n she screams then the screen light up chainsaw massacre coming soon. It was so awesome. But apparently freaked enough people out that is was pulled all together. People thought someone was really being chased in the theater. It did seem like it too lol. Just goes to show how easy you can scare yourself with the less is more theory like the original TCM movie did

He never hinted in cannibalism, never did anything like the old leather did, and was made into a pretty boy to justify him having sex with the girl even the mask he uses didn't make any sense as it just came out of the blue. At least in the other Texas movies, it was shown he slowly into the mask. This one was like, "op he's not pretty anymore, and he's got to get his leather face. ....let's just have him kill the girl and randomly use her face. " It would have made more sense to have the other kid live, reveal how messed up his family was and why he was in the mental place to begin with, witness all those around him die causing him to snap and kill the cop with a chainsaw (or sledgehammer) and then end it with the boy taking the cops face (or the main guys face) make a mask out if it and have him slowly head home.

Sadly millions of people in real life have lived in extreme abuse similar to Leather Face's, and they don't kill people while wearing their skin. (I guess the only comparable cases would be the youth soldiers of Africa) Did Leather face have the opportunity to spare people and choose not? That should answer the question of is Leather Face good or evil. "Did they walk into his hunting ground?" type of question doesn't make for a good argument. I guess the cannibals in "The Hills have eyes" and "Deliverance" are misunderstood too?
