@@davidfnaranjo I am not suggesting skipping the doctor's consultation. But you shouldn't forget that doctors are also people with different biases + they run businesses that need to survive. I learned it on my own skin. The quality of hair transplant clinics worldwide ranges from 2/10 - 10/10. Many people still assume that a certified doctor employed in an official clinic = great hair transplant result guaranteed because they must know what they do. But this is not true, unfortunately. He said finasteride only slowed his hair loss and after four years he just shaved his head because it looked ridiculous. He also said that finasteride has side effects that can be nasty. This person reminds me of myself. There are many lessons here, most of which you covered. In addition to needing meds if you do not get sufficient density it is a total waste. That was the what happened with his crown area. The lack of density coupled with aggressive hair loss meant all of those grafts were essentially thrown in the dumpster. In addition getting a dense hairline with insufficient hair behind it is worse than being bald. Ironically at this point his best bet might be to NOT take any hair loss meds and let the unnatural hair transplanted hair miniaturize til it's gone then have a natural bald look. There is some potential for a body hair transplant if he goes back to wanting one but that never matches the quality of head donor hair as the source. I made all the same mistakes. I too tried a hair system for a while but instead accepted my baldness for many years. Only recently did I successfully restore my hair though it will probably always be a work in progress. I regularly take Finasteride and Oral Minoxidil now too.

I was one of the few unlucky people with Fin. I took it for 5 years, it was amazing for my hair. I don’t really regret taking it at the time because at that age I just couldn’t handle hairloss (25).. it helped to just put my mind back at ease. But after about 3 years I started to notice side effects, at first I blamed other things. But decided to take a break from the drug and the side effects went away in two weeks but my hair loss came back eventually so panicked again and tried going back to Fin but only a pill every other day. But my side effects just got even worse than the first time I was on Fin. I had to stop Fin because I realized that my general health is much more important than hair. But I tried Minoxidil after that but I was allergic to it haha 😆…. And so I was left with zero treatment options. Dermaroller doesn’t do much on it’s own… I’m just waiting for some new treatments that are safer for me personally. But my point is that I understand people who don’t take Fin, or have but had to stop. If you’re lucky you can take Fin all your life and be fine and it saves your hair. But like with any drug, some people experience side effects. The scary thing was that when I finally quit Fin the second time it took a few years to recover not just two weeks. But this was just my personal experience. We often tend to think everyone else will have the same experience, so if it’s safe for you it’s safe for everyone or if it’s unsafe for you it’s unsafe for everyone. But that’s not how it works. It’s individual. People react to coffee differently too

I was saying I know it's fine but they started to fall so I want to preserve them. If I listen to them and didn't do a proactive medication early I wouldn't had any hair now.. @SuperKoreanzombie

Everyone reacts differently no two people are the same/ some require more/ only u will know. Even if u was under the care of a Dr, he will prescribe and monitor your progression and adjust etc hence you asking us if topical will help- only you will know as time will tell once you try it. In theory oral targets the DHT in your body which makes it way to scalp/ and that is more powerful than using topicals as you’re targeting it from within.
@bonkling

When you say no results, do you mean no regrowth? Or your hair is the same? Very likely that Finasteride has made a difference and without it you'd be worse off. Topical probably won't do anything more than oral. Have you tried Minoxidil and microneedling?

Hey, I'm on finasteride since 18 mounths and I personnaly experienced the opposite : Beard grows faster and new body hair follicules have quicky emerged on the beard and neck areas after strarting the pills. I am on month 4 after my hair transplant (1st Nov) and also been ok finasteride since the transplant. I had around 2700 grafts for the front area. Hair growth looks good, but curly and thin at the moment but I think that's to be expected. With regards to the side effects from finasteride. I too wasn't able to sleep properly, there were nights were I would wake up in the middle of the night with palpitations, and some nights just not able to sleep at all. However I kept persisting and continued to take fin (and also changed from 2.5mg every 2 days to 1.25 everyday by quartering a 5mg pill)... And eventually I was able to sleep ok. So I think it may be to do with the fact that the body is getting used to it? ... Or maybe placebo/anxiety. One other side effect that is getting really annoying is that I'm developing acne spots on my face, top/back of my head and some on my chest. Everyday I get a new spot. I'm still taking finasteride, because I consider this a minor, but it is annoying and wondering if anyone else had this same side effect???

@Aragonshow wholeheartedly agree with you man. I didn't stop. I kept taking the finasteride and eventually after a week or so, was fine. I think it was anxiety / placebo related. The spots on my face however I think is related to fin though
