We are happy to have you return to our channel. The news of TV chef Dave Myers's (66) passing from cancer has broken, according to co-star Si King. The Hairy Bikers were the group that Myers was best famous for.
As a member of the motorcycle-riding cooking team, Myers and his 30-year companion King rose to popularity. In 2013, he gained new admirers when he competed on Strictly Come Dancing with Karen Hauer, reaching the seventh week of the BBC show.
Sadly, I have some bad news to share with you," King stated. Dave has been battling cancer for the past couple of years, as most of you would know. With Lili, Dave's wife, his family, his close friend David, and me by his side, he quietly passed away at home last night, on 28 February 2024.The loss of Dave has shocked and saddened everyone who knew him. Dave found immense joy in his wife and the joy that her children, Iza and Sergiu, offered him.
Right now, I'm not sure I have the words to describe how I feel. At the moment, I am unable to accompany my dearest buddy on her journey. The friendship and connection we had for fifty years will be with me always, and I shall miss him daily. Brother, you are and always will be an inspiration, and I pray that God speeds you. I will see you when this is over. I adore you.

The news that Myers, who was born in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, was undergoing cancer treatment came in May 2022. He informed the Guardian that this was because "everyone then goes Googling, everybody becomes an amateur doctor...," but he did not reveal the specific type of cancer he had been diagnosed with. Plus, I would prefer not to be evaluated. The Hairy Bikers Go West, the host's newest series for BBC Two, premiered earlier this month. This "magical" show is the first following Myers' cancer diagnosis, and it follows them as they travel down the west coast of Britain, from Scotland to Devon.Presented alongside a holiday special, The Hairy Bikers: Coming Home for Christmas, it was perceived as signaling a more heartfelt and expressive trajectory for Myers and King's performances, defined by a rising candor and more profound reflections on the significance of savoring life's delights.
Since he "wasn't sure I'd ever get back in the saddle again," Myers described getting back on his motorcycle as "a dream come true" in the pilot episode.
He mentioned a period when he was unable to walk, balance, or even think of riding on a bike.
One of the high points of my life was when he came to my house to perform Comfort Eating," The Guardian's Grace Dent gushed about the host. He was a wonderful human being, full of kindness and beauty. The news of his illness shattered the industry-the food world, the TV world-because he was simply an ordinary, unpretentious guy. The food industry is having a truly bad day.
Host Matt Tebbutt of Saturday Kitchen paid tribute to Myers by writing on Instagram, "One of the good guys, seriously funny, genuinely nice and always a joy to have him and Si on the show." Many others also shared similar sentiments. BBC Morning Live host Gethin Jones made the quip, "We've met the guy so many times," during an on-air discussion. He was so cheerful and charming; it breaks my heart. "He was such a gorgeous human being," his co-host Kym Marsh chimed in.Myers first entered the workforce in 1995 as a makeup artist, where he met King on the set of the television drama The Gambling Man. In 2004, they made their television debut on the hybrid culinary show/travel program The Hairy Bikers' Cookbook. They cycled across Portugal in the pilot episode. In addition to their weight loss guide Hairy Dieters: How to Love Food and Lose Weight and the lifestyle plan that goes along with it, the Hairy Bikers Diet Club, they have released over 25 cookbooks and produced a plethora of sequels.
To those who have expressed condolences through recent letters of support, King extends his gratitude. He also asks that Myers' loved ones be allowed time to grieve.
Please know how much Dave and his family appreciate everyone's expressions of encouragement recently. He, his loved ones, and the entire Hairy Bikers crew were ecstatic. Your modest acts of charity, kindness, and spirit have touched my heart, and I want you to know how much you mean to me. In his letter, he expressed his undying gratitude to them.
Please, for the sake of Lili, his wife, his family, our close friends, and myself, let us some time and space to grieve this tremendous loss. Soon, I will see each and every one of you.
