I'm 37 years old and have watched the NBA since 1980. The ONLY two post players I saw who were TOTALLY unguardable were/are Kevin McHale and Hakeem Adbul Olajuwon. Vidoes like this remind us all of how good the players of the 'Golden Age" were.

Thank u for this video. I haven't seen a player before or after like Hakeem. I would start a franchise with Hakeem before ANY player in NBA history. Aside from running the point and consistently hitting the 3 (should not be held against him), there is absolutely no real flaw in his game at both ends of the floor. No other centre had his myriad of moves. It's incredible to fathom he played his "best" at the age of 32. No one else ever improved drastically into their 30s.

hakeem is my favorite player of all time. he played a beautiful game and did things no one that big should be able to do. his footwork was impeccable, his hands were soft, his instinct was perfect. food for thought: this is the player selected number 1 overall in '84 ABOVE jordan and no one will ever complain that it was the wrong pick. the greatest center? it's not even close. head to head the dream demolished robinson, ewing, barkley (PF) and shaq. they were left perplexed.

As a player in the NBA, when you get to a point where your so good, you don't even get double or triple teamed anymore, because the opposition doesn't see any point of risking sending another man to guard you when they know your gonna score anyway, that's when you have achieved a level beyond any other. Hakeem "The Dream" was one of those few. I miss the 90's centers.

0:42 may be the greatest post move ever executed by a true big man. He was the best center of his era (prime) and that era had some good centers. Not to mention a very good person with great sportsmanship. He didn't dunk on someone or shake them and then talk shit on the way back down. He was spectacular, plain and simple.

Olajuwon is the most skilled and agile center ever to play the game. He had the most incredible footwork for any basketball player to ever play. Mainly because he played lots soccer. Such technique skills and flexibility of body for a 2.15 m man never seen before and we ll hardly see again. Best center ever. The man was a blocks - points machine. There were games in the early 90s vs. CHI when Ewing was held in check by Cartwright, of course there were games where he was unstoppable, but he fell in love with jumper in the playoffs when he shoulda attacked the rim. Robinson almost always faltered in the playoffs, and got pushed around by Charles and Malone in the paint. Dream/Shaq CONSTANTLY put teams under pressure, Shaq with his brute strength, and Dream with his all around game and clutch ability in big games.

Great point, one thing I noticed when Hakeem guarded Shaq was that he never took the womanly way out like Ewing-DRob-Divac-Mutumbo, and either tried to deceive the refs by flopping or complaining about the physical beating he endured from guarding Shaq. Which is why Shaq had nothing but praise for Hakeem when he played, and couldn't say the same for other NBA centres. I give credit, Mourning was another one that tried to battle Shaq w/o flopping complaing to refs.

The coolest thing about Olajuwon y'all may not know is...he would actually study PG footage during the offseason to perfect his handles and laterall movement, which maybe one of the smartest things I've ever heard of. You wanna put a name out there at SF who can guard 1 to 5 is Ron Artest. He is quick to guard a PG and strong enough to guard a center, but what sets him apart is his quick hands and that is how you can relate him to Hakeem.

@LiveFree Correct: You can legitimately argue Hakeem was best EVER: Two Way Player Tap Dunker Best Shot Blocker Best Help Defender Defensive Player Best Fadeaway/Turn Around Jumper Best Post Moves Jump Hook Quickness at Center Havoc Maker/Creator Defensive Instinct (arguable) Now, whether he actually is or isn't, you can make a legitimate argument on each facet. I may have forgot some already, or felt they were elementary.

Best thing about this video is Hakeem shaking the shit out of Young Shaq's shoes. Even to this day, Shaq admits he was the hardest player to defend. He was so good with his feet partly because he was a soccer player before he ever touched a basketball. I met his brother and he told me all about how Hakeem didn't ever touch a basketball till his late teens

My friends and I call the move he does at 2:54 "The Vancouver"... The first time I ever remember seeing him do that move was when Clyde made his debut as a Rocket on the road against the Grizzlies... ever since then that's what we've called it... Hakeem would set it up so well, he'd do it after doing 3 or 4 fadeaways from the baseline, the defensive player had no choice but to assume he'd be doing a fadeaway so he'd go for the fake, and when he did, Hakeem would simply dribble and do a layup.
@djblowfish

My top 4 favorite Hakeem moves are: the "Bamboozled" at 0:04, the spinning dunk on Ewing at 0:41, the dance move on Shaq at 1:31, and the complete fakeout of Robinson at 0:17 (with a different angle at 1:06). Notice how helpless and confused Robinson (who is amongst the best defenders of all time) looked on that move... he was faked out twice... the move was so nasty Avery Johnson immediately called a timeout lol
