The Country Music Hall of Fame is a "funny" thing. About 15 years ago, I was listening to my country station, and they were talking about who was in and who wasn't. It was so long ago that I forget the names, but with so many of them, I yelled, "Are you sh*tting me?!"

I work in radio and several years back my station put on a concert with Hal and Restless Heart. I've met a lot country stars in my 30 years in the business, but none nicer or more easy to get along with than Hal. Most stars want to rush you off the stage when you introduce them, but not Hal. He told me to take as much time as I wanted to promote the radio station before introducing him... even though his stage manager didn't really agree. After the show Hal didn't want to stop playing. He asked me to take him to a local bar that was open late. So Hal and a few others from the station took him to a nice place that was open until 3am. Hal brought his acoustic guitar and we found a spot on the outside deck. Several people there had been to his show and knew who he was and made it out to the deck. Hal spent 3 more hours singing, chatting everyone up and signing autographs. When the bar closed I took him back to his hotel and he gave me a hug and thanked me for my friendship. I only knew Hal for one night. I wish it was more. I'm always miss him.

It's a great song and this is a great version. It was written by a fellow Irishman named Mick Hanly. It was a big hit in Ireland before Hal did his excellent version.
Wow. We are so much alike. Our eclectic tastes in music. I remember when this song first came out and I loved it. And we have all been in the protagonist's shoes haven't we? I recently caught the tail end of this song switching radio channels. Then I heard he passed away. Such a sad story for this terrific singer. I just had to download the song to my phone. It just was playing songs at random and this one came on. I felt the need to watch this video, that I remember from way back when. Such nice comments about a talented singer taken away from us too soon. Your comment especially, spoke to me, as you were saying what I was thinking.

Megan Willis Hi Megan. It was a little cowboy joint called Cody’s and then called Murphy’s when it changed hands. I don’t remember getting autographs or anything. He pretty much performed and split. It was 30 years ago Ha Ha!! Hal was sure underrated in my opinion but that’s pretty much how the music industry works. Cookie cutter acts all sound the same to me and they are the ones who sell records. I have always preferred bands or singers who have true talent and go against the grain. Those who put talent and unique abilities ahead of commercial goals, record sales and radio play lists!!

Megan Willis well my wife liked the show for sure. That bar is no longer a bar, it’s been turned into a senior citizen center🤣!! I’ve seen Dwight Two times recently and that old dude sure puts on one heck of a good show. We live in Kansas. My first wife and my wife now were born and raised here in Hays KS. Have you ever had a chance to see Chris LeDoux? That cowboy knew how to put on a show! My first wife and I saw him in Wichita back in 92. We didn’t have back stage passes but we were able to get in and she was able to sneak a kiss on his cheek. I was fortunate enough to see him 4 different times. The last time was in 04 not too long before he passed away. He was one heck of an entertainer and bareback rider back in the day!! His band, Western Underground still does shows with Chris’ son. I think he’s the drummer and sings but not too sure on that one.

Ah she's a beauty of a song. Always come back to it. It has the most incredible hook. No surprise the song has stood the test of time in my humble opinion

Great lines: I swore I’d never fall like this again. Fools like me never win. Came to my knees again. And I wonder if I’m past the point of rescue??!!!👏👏👏👏👏

The first song I ever heard from. I remember him riding his motorcycle in the video, his hair slightly gray and his thick eyebrows. A handsome man and great talent gone too soon. RIP Hal. 😥

Last night I dreamed you were back again Larger than life again, holding me tight again Placing those same kisses on my brow Sweeter than ever now, lord I remember how Couldn't get enough of kissing, do you know how much you're missing No you don't, but I do The days like a slow train trickle by And even the words that I write refuse to fly All I can hear is your song haunting me Can't get the melody out of my head, you see Distractions are amusing, do you know how much you're losing No you don't, but I do But I do, and I wonder if I'm past the point of rescue Is no word from you at all the best that you can do I never meant to push or shove you, do you know how much I love you No you don't, but I do I swore I'd never fall like this again Fools like me never win, came to my knees again Can't close the door on likely hood Things might be just as good, I always believed they would Gotta let your love invite me, baby do you think it might be No you don't, but I do Source: LyricFind

Thanks, Hal! This is arguably best best country song, period. I knew it the first time I heard it many years ago and still think so today. Vocals, arrangement, and lyrics are phenomenal. I know the words by heart but can't sing the song without getting a little overcome. Good music touches, as this does.

A wonderful middle-of-the-night- can't-sleep-for-missing-you song. Just where I was the first time I heard this, the music straight from the soul, every word so true I wanted to cry. Powerful. Still is, though - praise God - I'm no longer past the point of rescue,

Love this song. Heard it for the first time when it first came out back in 1991 or 92, freaking awesome!!! I'm more into rock, but some country music catches me, this song definitely did!!!! Love it.

I am surprised I don't have any memory of this one at all. I remember some other songs from around that time, especially Small Town Saturday Night which may have been from this same album. I was 2 or 3 when this came out.

The right country can be awesome! I'm into rock also but there was a great time of country music. Todays' country sucks! It's basically pop.
