The UNESCO World Heritage site of Hal Saflieni Hypogeum is a large, underground burial chamber that dates from around 3300 BC. It was built in around three stages, and contained burials of many people, and may have also been used for other religious rituals. It's extremely well-preserved, as it was buried underneath the suburbs of Valletta until the early 20th century when it was discovered completely by chance!
Many thanks also to Heritage Malta for kindly providing footage of the Hypogeum interior!
To easily get around Malta, why not try a Hop-on Hop-off Bus Tour which visits the Hypogeum and many other places (Hypogeum tickets not included): bit.ly/HalSaflieniHypogeumWHJ
