The E3 2003 demo loop running in a modified version of the 2003 Half-Life 2 leak. This only barely works so far.
To get the demos running to this point took about two weeks of modifying the engine and analyzing the raw network bitstream to figure out the changes (A particularly nasty packet was svc_sound, which alone took about 2 days of trial and error).
Notable issues:
- Many of the models have been updated since these demos were recorded, so the wrong animations play (especially prevalent with animation overlays)
- Version 17 BSPs (like e3_c17_01) do not load their packed assets, meaning that anything with a cubemap is a missing texture
- Alyx's flexes have changed
- Some props just do not show up (and don't even seem to be transmitted to the client?)
- Sentences.txt has changed so all of the sentence indices are off, so combine soldiers play some odell lines instead
