sounds real nice. I been flying vw for 70 hours and counting now. Good engines but your best to buy from someone like Scott that knows what they are doing. I built up my own from a junkyard and the only trouble i've had has been due to the learning curve. Mine have all been full VW's but I just love that sound of the 1/2 :) nice work!

@tthhnnee The engine weighs around 100 pounds ready to go with oil, prop, bolts, exhaust pipes. Oil flows through the coils on the intake pipes, warms the pipes to prevent icing at colder temps or higher altitudes and even cools the oil a bit in warmer conditions. Thanks for watching!

ever read the oil line temp an intake temp ? cooler air is denser makes more power... carb icing not to be ignored..

So here is my question for use on a different project would a guy be able to turn that cut case in to a one cylinder and or would a guy be able to leave cylinder and heads on one side cape the other side off and make it a two cylinder vertical or would that upset things on those engines hopefully some one with more knowledge on those engines might be able to answer these questions

Idles perfectly. On my opposed twin bmw I would not run it so lean that the pipes turned blue.( nice amber was swell) .you have to double check by reading your plugs, and perhaps with an exhaust gas analyzer.. but my experience says that is too lean on the main jet/needle depending on what type carb you have. and at altitude.. for sure too lean... very short pipes like that are hard on the exhaust valves..a 2 into 1 pipe will have several benefits.. but lovely engine and bravo.. details on the ignition and carb would be nice... dont forget to retorque your heads after a few hours, and keep after the valve clearance...used to be every 3000 miles in the cars.. and at 60 mph that's 50 hours. start with 25 hours until you learn how it behaves. dont let the exhaust valves run tighter than spec or they will burn.

you dont need a prop on it to test it, and you can put a crank bolt and use a drill to start it = way safer.

Great, when you start your flight training, consider glider training. Gliders are much more intense a piloting experience than powered and it will get you ready for all kinds of issues in airmanship. Plus, it's much cheaper. Consider it when you start flying.

Can't fault these things. Nice sanitary job. Much to be said for 2 into 1 exhaust which when done right uses the exhaust pulse from one cyl to extract the exhaust from the next... this creates a tad more power, and also reduces specific fuel consumption. Weight has to be figured in.. Straight pipes require a richer mixture and waste fuel.

What this is is a 1990's Volkswagen Beetle engine, cut in half and put on a draw through carburetor. Theyre air cooled, and really light. The engines can be bought in any condition, for anywhere from 100$ to 5000$ depending on the condition. You can then buy plans on how to cut it in half properly, What carb to use, etc. These Make for one hell of an engine for a superlight aircraft or helecopter. GOOGLE "BETTER HALF VW"

I would call that a Success and Oh can you really call anything Plane related as Over Engineered ? even a test stand for any motor with a Propeller should have some extra built into it imo i think it was a Story about the original Spitfire pilots i read that i always think of when looking at anything Airplane related they said those planes had so much torque to them that there was a certain skill they had to have during taxi and take offs not to accidently flip the entire Airplane 360 degrees in a barrel roll one of my old next door neighbors got a present from his wife to go fly Spitfires in Florida and i talked to him right after he did it he was well into his 70s and he acted like a teenager after a date with the Prom Queen lol he of course had the videos and apparently the school has a rule that obviously you have to be licensed but secondly they will not allow you to take off and land in their planes untill you have so many hours flying with their pilots oh yes the facility that owns all the restored Spit fires is also a School he also told me the hangar they stored and worked on the fleet had a white Epoxy floor that was immaculately clean
