Semi-controversial take, it doesn't matter at this point. Bud Selig is enshrined in the HoF. Nobody, I mean nobody, benefitted more from the Rocket being fueled by a little more than Rocket Fuel. He benefitted the most from all those guys. The media that voted him into the HoF needs to vote all those legends into the Hall, as well. There is no Bud Selig "saving" baseball, the media said that a lot in my day, there is no more baseball on the same level, I'd bet, period today. Those juicers juiced baseball to prominence again. It doesn't matter what Clemens or any of them did. They saved baseball.

no one has to like clemons personally to realize that he was a very dominant pitcher for 23 seasons. the idea of enshrining the guy who looked the other way regarding steroid use (bud selig) in MLB HOF and leaving clemons out is ridiculous.

In my opinion the HOF is a museum that acknowledges only the best who played in MLB. Or those who made a significant historical impact on the game. It is not a shrine to honor the most honorable, ethical or those who had a strong moral compass. If that was true, half of the HOF would be empty. We'll never fully know who used a PED or how many players used PED'S

They should either put all the guys suspected of PED use in or leave them out. Currently Jeff Bagwell, Ivan Rodriguez and David Ortiz are in but Bonds, Clemens and A Rod are out. I suspect it has more to do with their personalities than anything else.

After the strike of 1994, the likes of Clemens as well as Bonds, McGuire and Sosa SAVED baseball. The HOF is indebted to them. Period! THEY made baseball exciting again. Also, I have read that as much as 80% of MLB players were on some PEDs. I'm not saying this is okay, but it was the era that they played. Which is why they ALL deserve a spot in the HOF. Whether they took PEDs or not, they still were the best in their eras. I think it is unfair for the sport to ride the success of these, and other players, and then turn on them as icons of baseball. The Hall of Fame is simply NOT the Hall of Fame if the best players who ever lived are not there.

Good video. Roger Clemens was one of few names that really stood out to me during my childhood AND adulthood. I forgot he played for the Blue Jays. One thing, I would have liked to have seen him challenge Barry Bonds more - I believe he walked him 6 out of the 8 times they faced. The Rocket truly had an incredible career.

Roger Clemens is the best pitcher of the live ball era. Stat wise, no one else is really that close. He has 30 more WAR than Maddux or Johnson. And 20 more than Seaver. The most Cy Youngs (7). And really should be about 10 by today's standards. A 144 ERA+ over 5000 innings. And the highest WAR7 of the liveball era. He has 100 WAR between the age of 21 and 35, in 3200 innings. By far the quickest to that mark. As for the inevitable steroid complaints....I don't think many people actually read the document that tied Clemens to PEDs; the Mitchell Report. In it, his former trainer claims Roger used PEDs in the second halves of 1999, 2000, and 2001. That's it. He makes no mention of any steroid use during his last 2 years in NY or the next 3 seasons in Houston, where he won a Cy Young and an ERA title. Which makes perfect sense, Clemens, like many players back then saw the writing on the wall, and knew the PED party was over with the 2003 survey testing, and acted accordingly. All in all a mere 6% of his 24 yr career has been tied to PEDs. All when he was past his prime in his late 30s. All of this was done at the height of the steroid era when considerable percentages of the MLB used, when there was no testing, no discipline and frankly no consequences to using. Roger was a product of his era, and of the context and culture of the league.

As a Sox fan since 1986, I loved Clemens as a kid. But, he was mostly bad for his last 4 seasons with the Sox. He showed some glimmers of hope toward the end of 96, especially in his second 20K game, which was his final win in a Sox uniform. It was only slightly controversial that the Sox didn’t resign him. The fact that he went on to dominate with Toronto made is hate him. Looking back, the Red Sox were mismanaged from the late 80s on. They didn’t ever adequately replace Jim Rice or Dwight Evans, nor Wade Boggs, end never having a reliable number one catcher until getting Varitek.
