As someone who lost both my parents. I lost my father when he was 52 right before Thanksgiving, and in 2019, my mom passed away on Christmas Eve. With four kids, I know how challenging it is to do much of anything after these profound losses. I had to really sit with myself, and ask myself what my parents would have wanted. The last thing they would have wanted was for anything to stop, especially because they always wanted their grandchildren to experience joy! Yes, it will feel like you are going through the motions. So sit your kids down and ask them to help you come up with a new tradition, one that will honor your mother, their grandmother. My mom loved birds, so we put up a new tree in our foyer that is all birds. That tree is reminder of her and a way to show how much she meant, and it’s the first thing we see when we come through the door. It’s going to be difficult, but I promise, that new tradition will be carried on by your children someday because it will mean so much to them and be part of their healing. Sending you hugs! And I’m proud of you for putting up those Halloween decorations. I’m sure it was the last thing you wanted to do. XO

I sympathize with you Lauren😢!! I just recently lost my Dad two months ago back in August of this year and 2 weeks later lost a cousin!!! It blew my mind suddenly my Dad passed away just suddenly on his job!! He was my last living parent!!! I really feel like an adult orphan. I lost my Mother at 25 and it gets a little easier to accept day by day, but you never let go of that pain!! I’m devastated myself and trying to push on because these time of the year is devastating for me also. I’m so proud of you for continuing to push through the grief and continue doing things you love; decorating. You have a beautiful family that loves and adores you and that makes life a little easier.💙💙💙🙏

HAPPY HALLOWEEN 🎃🎃 I'm sorry about your mom, I lost mine a few years back in December right before her birthday in the middle of all the holidays. I start with fall in September, October 1st I do Halloween, then November 1st I start with a Thanksgiving decor, similar to fall but less orange more deep red and olive green. Thanksgiving day we just have my father n law over and I always host, do family style, I do all the cooking but leave the baking of pies to me daughter. Th er n the day after Thanksgiving I start with Christmas. We do a live tree so a tree is done about 2 weeks s prior to Christmas. I again host Christmas eve and Christmas day. I also host new years Eve every other year. Lots of hosting, lots of cooking decorations and lots of tired nights 😂 then in January I switch to a warm and cozy decor. Honestly I do decor change just about every month 😂 so much fun.

My aunt died at the end of August. She loved decorating for Easter, fall and Christmas. Her pantry was as a little bit of food and a lot of decor. My cousin has given herself permission to skip decorating for Christmas if she doesn’t feel like it. I’m sure she will end up decorating but just giving herself permission lifted a bit of a burden. Just thought I’d share in case it is helpful with regard to Thanksgiving. Grieving at the holidays is the worst. My brother died in November. I cried the entire holiday season. I hope you are holding on during this season of grief, Lauren. And thanks for the sneak peak of the new floors. Hugs to you.

My sister and I laugh about it now how we went so over the top that year. We bought so many presents. The main thing is we got through it and having close family that remember her will help. I’m not sure if going away on a holiday is the answer…you will still miss her and the holiday.? The first year is the worst… you have to go through all the holiday firsts unfortunately….but you will do it. See those beautiful children so happy and excited for the season will help. Well I started/opened a business last year and I'm just so insanely busy.. Halloween is STILL up here at my house. 😂 I hope this weekend I can get it all down. I'm so glad to see you again! I usually decorate for Halloween. We go on a camping trip the weekend before and make a haunt there and then come home and decorate the house. I only decorated a little on the inside this year. With so much wind and rain we have had, I just didn't have it in me to do it this year. I give each holiday their time. Halloween, Thanksgiving, and then Christmas. Lauren, I’m so sorry, It is hard when we lose our moms and unexpectedly- makes it even harder! I hope you are finding lots of ways to help get you through. Like yourself, I also make meals, using my moms recipes, too. Other things help me as well… for Halloween, my mom always wore a witches hat and cape, as she passed out candy. I now put her hat on a standing broom. For Christmas, I put up a small tree, using special ornaments, with small photo frames, of her. I had a few of her blouses, made into pillow covers, just small ones, that I could add to my hm decor, during the holidays. Just wanted to share some ideas, that helped us! My heart goes out to you, Lauren, as your heart learns to navigate- in what comforts you! Prayers to you and your family, during one of life’s- most difficult heartbreaks! 🙏🏻👣🕊️
