+mr_show Sounds like the bulb is gone. Replacements are around £10 but replacement isn't usually a 2 minute job. Personal choice as to whether it's worth the savings taking into account the chance that it might not be the root problem. A multimeter would tell you if it's the bulb or not though.

I can't believe I'm the only one to have a lid-rattling problem... it's not the fan or anything internal- it's a loud brain numbing buzzing/rattling that only stops or eases if you push the lid down and HOLD it down for the whole cooking time! The lid is constantly vibrating against the glass bowl or, even worse- the metal extension ring! If the top of the lid was flat, I think a house brick laid on the top MIGHT work But if I even stood near the bloody thing with a brick in my hand I think I would probably make my feelings known to its detriment! Any more peaceful solutions would be Appreciated!

My current one had a rattling lid but it was solved by just rotating it to the sweet spot. As yours sounds like this isn't the solution, other than a return, maybe some heat resistant tape on the rim of the lid? Not sure how well it would hold up when it gets cleaned though.

Yay!! I'll have a go :-) Just one thing - my halogen lid is on a hinge, so doesn't come off. Is it easy to get at things on that kind of lid? Mind you, I could go and have a look, couldn't I????

Yeah I can see that adding ever more complication to it lol. There's probably a way to take it off the hinge without just breaking it off, wouldn't like to guess how much hassle it might be though. Good luck if you try it though! Edit - having said that, there should be enough room to do it without taking the lid off the hinge, more awkward but possible, you can do it, I believe!

SOB!!! Just tried to do the mending thing - and can't get the first lot of screws loose!!! So can't get the guard thing off. Screws are obviously bunged up with oil and cooking detritus. (Could be cleaner, couldn't I?) So here's a really dim question for you: how do I loosen up the screws? WD40 or something???

+Ziks Fix Panic over - a bit, anyway. Finally got the guard off, but the nut seemed tight. So we tightened it a bit more anyway, just in case. The fan does seem to move forward a backwards a bit. Is this just normal play? Or could it be what's causing the funny noise? Will have to see how it goes :-)
