More: "I've been really open about my struggles with reproductive health, about wanting to freeze my eggs and having endometriosis and things like that. For a long time, I didn't think that having a family was something I was going to be able to do, and it’s very, very important to me. Then one day my OB-GYN tells me it's looking like I maybe can, and I was so moved. It felt like this ascension into a different kind of womanhood. All of a sudden, everything is different. I'm not going to go tour myself to death because I have nothing else to do and I'm overcompensating for not being able to have this other thing that I really want. Now, I have a choice. I've never had a choice before. Lido [the producer Peder Losnegård] and I built the fading instrumental at the end of the song to sound like a sonogram, like you were hearing the sounds from inside a womb. It's one of the most special songs I've ever made.” - iTunes Editor's Note.

I see so many comment trashing this album and while I agree everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I really think your opinion should at least be respectful. This album speaks about her going through a miscarriage , personal crises she has dealt with etc. something she is choosing to share with the world! Halsey wrote most these songs, she is talented when it comes to songwriting and her lyrics! so please stop discrediting her just because you don't like a body of work and accusing her of having 30+ writers.

Personally, I really love "Forever... (is a long time)". This song is special, so powerfull and so well done... Halsey said about it : "On this song, I’m falling in love. The instrumental is major, all these beautiful twinkling tones, and birds are singing, everything’s sweet […] The piano comes in and it’s this stream-of-consciousness train of thought that modulates from major to minor to show my mood shifting from optimistic to anxious". This is just perfect. We can clearly see what is happening in Halsey's mind, that's why the melodies are changing like that in the song... just wow.

"Ya'll parents who abandoned your kids... Ya'll are Hoes!" This is the best line of the video for me. Both for being a very real statement and for being a bit of an unexpected insult I think this is my favorite of Halsey's albums. Lyrics are the most important part of music for me and Halsey had me engaged with every song. More and 929 made me tear up. I kinda expected you to not like the more whimsical songs, but I do hope they grow on you. My favorites are: 929, 3AM, Killing Boys, I Hate Everyone, Alanis's Interlude (Halsey saying BI rights!), Clementine, and Ashley. I feel like this album is going to be so unnoticed and Im already feeling really dissapointed. It is such a masterpiece! These days people are listening to the albums only to find a couple of songs they like when they should be looking at it as a whole. The concept of Manic is unique and so masterfully fulfilled using lyrics as well as sounds. There are so many parts where you just think to yourself "wow". Like the last song is a killer. Calling herself a liar, a fucking liar is just too real it actually shows you how manic her mind is. I could literally feel it in my gut. This album is like a really good book or a really good movie you cannot pick it apart, you cannot skip any of its parts. I just love this album and I am not even a stan. Btw AJay, this album is from Ashley (Herself) to Halsey, it’s about reconnecting with yourself. Once you know that the songs mean more. For example, Graveyard is Ashley crying out at Halsey, In Clementine when shes saying ‘I don’t need anyone’ that’s Halsey and when she says, ‘I just need everyone’ that’s Ashley.

I'm actually super disappointed that she didn't like it as much as I thought she would. I definitely get the criticisms - but these aren't necessarily tracks that are meant to get to the radio, but instead tracks that provide an insight into Halsey's mind. I think context behind the album as a whole and how the songs portray Halsey's message would have been helpful here. Ah well.
@sycamore2656

@Corrah
4 жыл бұрын
No - what I'm saying is that I understand how these songs are difficult to digest and enjoy sonically if you're listening to it at face value. While the lyrics are direct, they're also working together to deliver the overarching message. This album is about the three faces we put on: the one we show others, the ones we show those closest to us, and the one we hide from everyone. With that simple idea in mind, the album makes a lot more sense and feels much more cohesive than it would without that understanding. I love Ajay's reactions, I'm not at all trying to be rude. I'm just bummed that she didn't like it as much as I had hoped she would, that's all!

Ugh. I'm holding off listening to it because this is my first Halsey album where I don't loathe her anymore. But then I see stuff like your comment, and I feel like I'm still just a little afraid to fully accept that she has become a highly respectable artist, woman, and person since leaving G-Eazy. Damn. It's so hard to sit with the reality that someone I felt exemplified the WORST of melodramatic, half-baked "artists" in this generation of music, completely flipped into one of the coolest, most creative and insightful artists of this century. I'm still just mindblown that the person I was balking at for "hotel shampoo is racist" turned out to be the person who had the BEST, most well-thought statement about Taylor Swift's fight with Big Machine last year. What kind of phenomenon does that? Just goes from being a bad joke you tell your friends to being the person you've got to tell everyone about? Halsey is the GOAT of turning lemons into lemonade. I'm dead serious. I NEVER would have expected HALSEY, yes, SJW-Tumblr-Twitter-"Tri-Bi" HALSEY to transform into the person who says the best speech at the AMAs, puts out the best statement on a scandal, creates the most interesting music videos and songs, makes you feel bouncy and sad and inspired and reflective and confident and doubtful in the same 20 minutes. Just shocking. Absolutely shocking.

It’s about how to paint the picture you can write a song about break up or losing something. She made a album showing different feelings pertaining to those incidents and more but didn’t use the plan run way to go with it. Saying I hate you and I wish you be sad and all that stuff and it’s her own story it’s not exactly like someone else so I mean. I geniunely don't want to leave a hate comment BUT the case with some artists is that there's a lot more than goes into each song and every album they put out than just vocals and production and lyrics some songs are not meant to have smooth transitions between the verses and the chorus for a reason in terms of production some tracks on an album are part of a bigger story and it's not that they are incomplete most importantly what some Artists put out is not necessarily meant to be radio-friendly or easily digestible. there are records that you need to know a few things about the creative process and where the artist is coming from in order to 1. understand them 2. appreciate them and finally 3. make them your own

lol relax different people have different opinions and also there is not alot of people who searches for all of the creative process in a song to dig it. Idk i just don't think is THAT deep. You can just like or dislike a song. Calm down.

@@strangeboi2917 - That's why mainstream is the way it is--mostly full of a bunch of easily digestible messages and sounds that will catch as many listeners as possible. That's not a slam, that's just how mainstream works (and I love the results most of the time). It's not designed to be that deep. But Manic isn't mainstream, it IS designed to be that deep and asks for a different mindset. So yeah, it's always a matter of simply liking or not liking a song, but sometimes the reason you don't like something is because it's different, not because it sucks.

If you’re not a Halsey fan you wouldn’t understand what manic is, it’s the raw emotions between ASHLEY and HALSEY. What’s deep within her is expressed in this album being her most personal album. I believe it’s a musical masterpiece and an album I have anticipated from my favourite artist for over a year. Congratulations Halsey💜💙

She said she's gonna listen to it again. I'm just like Ajay, most atimes i end up liking some songs when I keep on listening to them. Like work by Rihanna and shake it off by Taylor grew on me. I didn't like it at first. Halsey songs are the same so I've kept on listening to it and I like it the more I listen to it. No offense.
