Hey folks, have a fantastic weekend ahead. Been thinking of having KZitem memberships similar to Twitch where you can have emote and Discord perks, such as joining us in the monthly Coffee Chats / Q&As, community games and the like. Maybe more videos exclusive to KZitem as well -- it's been suggested to react to memes... Thoughts? xx

Hey Neil! Quick trick. You don't have to individually select items to send back to camp (or sell). Hold shift to multi-select (or use ctrl), then right click on a selected item. It'll do the action on all of them. This should save you tons of time next time you find 9000 salamis.

I love these streams so much, thanks so much Neil and Tom for not only doing these but also bringing in other actors and members of the production team to the starts of the streams. Such a great addition to the whole thing and so very cool to hear their stories and their experiences in making this amazing game. All that said, I really, really wish Tom would stop calling Astarion and Neil's interest in exploring the character he helped to create "Toxic". I understand that he's ribbing his friend, where I'm from we have a long tradition of giving good friends "$hit" in friendly ways too. But it's all the time... Astarion is a survivor of abuse and loss of bodily autonomy. His story can, if the player chooses the good outcomes, de-fuse the toxic trope of the "Traumatized Villain", so broken by their abuse that they can never be saved or redeemed. It's one of the best character stories in the game and it's brilliantly written, (I may be biased), in both the good and bad outcomes. It's cathartic to see this story through to the good ending for him, and something that's frankly super rare for anti-heroes with this kind of background in fiction. Something survivors of this kind of abuse don't often get given in media. So, to hear the constant "Toxic" trash talk... I'm sorry but I kind of wish Tom would lay off on occasion... Yes Astarion isn't a great guy to start with. We get it. It would be nice if Neil could continue to explore Astarion to a point where we could start to understand the whys and what exactly happened, instead of getting pressured to just write him off as a two dimensional toxic a$$-hole character. Sorry. I just had to say it finally.
@jenh1041

Thank you so much for this comment, this has been bothering me a lot and I was really not sure if I should say something somewhere. I absolutely do not get /like the generic red flag and toxic comments, if you just take a minute to get to know the character you´ll find so many hints that he did not choose the way he is and that he is not happy at all. He´s not reeling in it instead he´s even brave enough to try and get out of it.
@kyuubinagashi

@salti1976, @jenh1041, Look, I absolutely love Astarion, he is one of my favorite characters in this game and has a really great story, but he 100% a toxic asshole at this point of the game. Suffering from trauma and abuse does not give you an excuse to be a shitty person, that is one of the main narrative points of his story. (I am also speaking from experience) Also I am pretty sure Neil himself is the one who started the whole "toxic boyfriend" joke in an earlier stream and Tom has just been going along with it, especially since he is roleplaying a lawful good aligned character, and they are friends, if it bothered Neil, he would let Tom know. I'm sure Tom won't keep saying it once he actually gets to see more of Astarion's story, give him time, they're barely into the game yet.
@salti1976
11 ай бұрын
@@kyuubinagashi No one said he isn't an absolute a$$ at this point in the game. In fact I expressly acknowledged he is. On the one hand, no it's not an excuse, and yes, that's part of his story. But understanding that how we behave, and the habits of how we think, react to and treat others, and how we trust both others and ourselves, are heavily informed by what we've had to do in our past in order to survive with what sanity we can intact, is also a big part of his story. And you can't have the progression of learning how to start healing and break that chain without the traumatized person being a manipulative jerk at the start. Rather than writing him off as a "shitty person", I'd rather say he's a traumatized person who has learned the hard way that he cannot trust anyone unless he's directly controlling the situation through manipulation - and even then he isn’t always safe. Tho both statements are technically true, the second way of speaking is more empathic and less hurtful to survivors who are struggling with some of the same issues and find themselves identifying with the struggles of this character. I don’t remember who started it. And yes, the initial intent was meant to be light hearted, and still is... already acknowledged. It doesn’t matter. What I'm trying to share is that while it may have been funny at first, and may even still be occasionally funny, the constancy of harping on it is starting to feel a little painful to some of us - clearly I'm not alone in this. Neil and Tom both mention repeatedly that these streams are all-inclusive and supposed to be a safe, adult space for all. One would assume that also extends to those who have abuse trauma and thus identify with some of these characters’ journeys because of that. As such, it seems they would want to know if some small part of the community are starting to feel a bit uncomfortable with this. It’s not an attack or a criticism, it’s informational. Besides, if IDK about you but if I were playing with a good friend and they were this consistent about disparaging a character, I would eventually start to not play them so much just out of sheer embarrassment. I don’t want to see Neil do that, I’d really like to see him explore Astarion’s story in the finished game, same as some of the other actors are exploring theirs. I'm not saying don't make the joke on occasion. But every time Neil talks to Astarion, or there's a story progression for Astarion, or there's a cutscene that Tom even THINKS might be something to do with Astarion, out comes the "Ooohhh noooo... toxic boyfriend again". Every time. That's more than an occasional joke.
@salti1976
11 ай бұрын
Just going to add that anyone harping on Astarion for being a toxic asshole while pointedly ignoring the toxic baggage being hauled around by pretty much every single Origin Character - with the possible exception of Karlach, who is probably the healthiest member of the Origin Party by a long shot - really should rethink their attachments to toxic tropes in media in general. They're all real pieces of work. But that's part of what makes them so believable and complex and sympathetic. What makes them such great characters, with real depth.
@MegaMilenche

@@salti1976 Out of all the toxic origin characters, at least Astarion has a valid reason for being as fucked up as he is, after 200 years of slavery and various forms of abuse/torture. So far, at least as Tom is concerned, he kind feels like a generic woke ally. Role-playing a non-binary female character doesn't make you a decent person IRl if you are generally closed-minded.

@@katiatall Thank you for replying. Unfortunately, many people equate being unassuming and caring with being boring, especially the ones who were into him because of the big muscles, daddy fetish and, possibly, the bear scene, only to find out he's actually quite gentle. That's why I love him, he's so giving and protective that he joins the main quest despite being the only one who doesn't have a tadpole. To each its own, I guess. If anything, the bear scene was hugely off putting to me, but it's basically a classic D&d players' joke about druids and Larian seems to indulge all sorts of memes, jokes, etc to make fans happy. I'm glad however that If you choose to romance him, you can choose not to let that happen.

@@MegaMilenche It's not about talking him out of it, it's just not going along with it. I chose for my druid to be with him and no one else and it worked quite well. Even if he gives you the speech about you being free and give yourself to whoever you want you can choose not to do it. The post credit scene if you choose to be with him is absolutely adorable and makes it clear he is commited to you and to a very homely life. He's not into an open relationship, but into the kind of poliamory in which everyone agrees to commited relationships. I think that if you're not into bringing someone else into the relationship, he loves you so much hell be fine with it. But, if you do want someone else, hell be fine with it too. Actually, if you choose to be with both him and Astarion, the post credit scene makes it clear you are living with Astarion but maybe visiting Halsin occasionally. It feels like Halsin is just a 3td wheel to the primary relationship! So I think if you choose him alone, he'll be fine with just being with you.

Aw darn it, by stopping the BDSM session with Abdirak, Bowee missed out on one of the best permanent buffs in the game ("Loviatar's Blessing") that Abdirak can grant to one character!! That is, if you succeed on all Performance rolls to give Abdirak the show his goddess wants (he wants to hear proper screams to show you're into pain to be "cleansed" by it), or Intimidation rolls to tell Abdirak he hits like a girl and should give you more. You fail automatically if you do what most players do: picking the Constitution roll option to play the "stoic adventurer hero who doesn't show pain". That's not what Loviatar wants to see.

sadly only one person in the party can get the blessing too. I was playing with my hubby and brother in law and since his brother did the cutscene and got the blessing, the rest of us couldn't do it. He says he's too tired after the session lol.

Just got around to watching this and I love it. Heard Dave in The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow (with Sam Béart!) and thought he did a fantastic job. I admit Halsin doesn’t get a lot of use in my party (nostalgic love for Jaheira) but he and Dave are super awesome 😊

49:41. If you continue getting beaten, astarion applauds and gets excited, and if you pass the dice rolls..i think 3 times? You get a permanent buff for the rest of the game. But respectable for bow'ee to not fully bow to her man like I..er...some people do 😅

Some quotes, for your consideration: - “I see, so we’re not finding Halsin, we’re on the rob again?” - “Did you even try to talk to her?””I did try to talk to her, she’s now prone, you’re welcome” - “I don’t think they’re children, they’re just goblins.” - “Yes, you should have killed the children, Neil, is that what you wanted to hear?” - “She’s in a vase, mate!”

I NEED to know what scene Dave is referring to as the most difficult scene for him to do. When does Halsin get that intensely emotional?? I gotsta know!

check below if you want SPOILERS . . . No really, it’s like 3 spoilers all in one . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I got to one scene the other day in Act 3 that left me absolutely wrecked so I think it might be that one: Orin the shapeshifter infiltrates your camp and kidnaps and replaces one of your companions. It can be different people, for me it was Halsin. I had no idea until I got into the sewers under the Elfsong Tavern and a panicked Halsin bursts through a door, telling me to run. He says Orin has his scent and will track him down so I need to save myself. I tell him I’m not leaving him behind and he says no, he’s staying bc he doesn’t deserve to see daylight ever again. He reveals that after Orin kidnapped him she tortured him for days but he stayed strong. But then she did something (I can’t remember) to make him feral and succumb to his wildshape bear form. Then, when he was blind with bloodlust and rage, she threw some children into his cage. You can imagine the rest. Then he turns into Orin who taunts you and tries to make a deal with you and I still don’t know what actually happened and if what Orin-as-Halsin said was true or not because I haven’t gotten him out yet. I hope at least that’s the scene he’s referring to because if there’s a worse scene I don’t think I could handle it. That performance and that scene are absolutely devastating. I remember sitting on my couch, at like 2 am, absolutely dumbstruck and in awe of his delivery. Goosebumps. Fun fact: if you don’t meet him in the sewers, he’ll apparently be in your camp, chowing down on Scratch

Listening to you talk about your characters and their motivations, and the kinds of skills needed was very interesting. Baldur's Gate 3 is a fantastic game, and you guys were the perfect cast. Well done

CW for general adult discussions and violence as related to k*nk Okay but like, Larian and all the writers 100% know that there’s a definite intersection between DnD, k*nk, and poly. Like for eggsample- the Loviatar scene when played out is *chefs kiss*. Based on quite a few uh, first hand eggsperiences, that scene in particular had certain details that really made me happy to see:) also quick psa that k*nk isn’t always specifically seggsual!!!! (but obviously it’s still an inherently an adult activity). But yeah all my poly k*nk dnd friends/partners have been playing this lol

Y’all I need to get out of KZitem comments and finally write that presentation abt types of masochism in society and why pain, on a neurological level is actually desirable to some people. Example(one of many I could use): athletes constantly and enthusiastically ‘hurt’ themselves to push their bodies beyond the limits of the avg person, meanwhile, a good portion of people find working out like that to be physically painful.
