Nice video Tim!! We’ll explained and as always relaxed and easy going. Keep up the great work mate. I’d love to have you come onto the show some time to talk about antennas for beginners. Let me know if you’d be interested in that. He would be an honor to have you join us. All my best, Larry

If you can, its best to choose concrete carparks, roads, bridges and such as they often have rebar in them which makes a great ground field even mobile. Good reason to be able drive around and find low noise hot spots.

Practical advice to solve the problem of wind Tim. Take a thickness of 5mm plexiglass, make a round shape about of 6cm. In a center of plexiglass make a hole in the middle (precise!!!), diameter of the second section of the telescopic whip (view from bottom to the top). Next to the the main hole, make 3-4 small holes for climbing rope of 3mm to use as anchor to the 3-4 quality magnets which you put to the edge of your car. In this case you can always use full length of telescopic whip (5m!) without fear to collapse and even more important, you REDUCE "twisting pressure" on coil itself!!! It works, cheap and tested over hundred times... Stay well 👍

Have to say you are looking very dapper Tim, the collar and jumper look really suits you :D The coil and antenna are amazing, that is a great combination. I was amazed at your QSOs from such an urban location ! What a fantastic way to get on the air super quick. I'll be out with a 17m and 20m Ampro whip next week, really excited to try it out with the IC705 and my first POTA attempt. Of course you was my inspiration to get into using Ampro sticks, so am looking forward to trying them out over an extended period of time. Thanks again, brilliant videos - 73 2E0FWE Al.

Tim glad to watch your video and enjoy to learn about the moonraker I just ordered a MFJ 1979 yesterday, so I’m quite interested in your thoughts and opinions. I especially liked how you used a Trimag mount another excellent idea 💡👍 73 Steve AA4SH Tennessee

It’s a useful piece of kit the mfj1979 whip. Just be careful to avoid over extending it and not to leave it out for prolonged use overnight in wet weather.

Buy a couple of 3/8 extension poles I use the buddipole ones you can purchase separately and you will get even better performance with them before the coil

Centre loading? Sounds promising

Tim, I find virtually no improvement on receive but certainly your signal is considerably improved. Here's an extract from the antenna handbook 'In an electrically short vertical, moving the loading higher is almost always an improvement because it raises the point of maximum current, where the majority of the radiation takes place. Center is better than base loading and top loading is superior to center loading.!

Hello Tim, I see on your video that you have NO electrical connection to the frame of the car to act as a counterpoise. I've read some installation instructions e.g. of the Diamond HF20-CL where it is said that such a connection is required. One even mentions that not having such a connection will prevent the VSWR to be lowered. OK you are using the Slidewinder and of course with or without you can still shorten or lengthen the antenna. Here's my question, have you ever experienced difficulty getting an antenna resonant by NOT having an electrical connection with the frame of the car to act as a counterpoise? Did you ever test an antenna on the car with and without making a connection to the frame to see whether there's any noticeable difference in performance of the mobile antenna? 47 years a ham, 99.95% of the time HF but have never gone mobile !! 73 es dx. Hi Gust, using single mag mounts I’ve never had an issue with swr for 10 through 20m. 40 however requires proper bonding in my experience 73

I have some ampro whips for 40 and 20. I was looking at getting the SlideWinder DX Coil which I saw in your videos. I was just wondered as you have used both. What do you think is better the slide winder and the military whip or the Ampro’s? Which do you think performs better?

Tim, would you consider using the a 4ft hustler whip and cap hat? It would shorten the over length of the antenna on the roof and possibly give you better performance, might be worth looking at also. Stay safe de Ei2iP.

A budipole 110 inch telescopic whip might be a good choice for that coil, while static mobile. It's strong but significantly lighter. 73

Good point. I already use a chameleon whip which is 128 inches (3.3m) long. Makes a difference weight wise and on bands like 40. 73
