@@glado6263 this. It's a weird contrast and I think it catches people. 'Rise' is sung low and 'fall' is sung high, which is counterintuitive. In addition the way classical music is constructed when you see a high note to end a chord it's in a prelude to the resolution, which will be a lower note or a complete chord (like Csus4 resolved to Cmaj). It's very jarring to have words like "empires fall" as NOT the resolution, that's just the prelude to what's really important to George.

Honestly, this was kind of one of the reasons that America wanted to break away. No British Monarch ever stepped foot in the American colonies, so most Americans didn’t know what their King actually looked look, what he sounded like, his personality, etc. So they eventually reasoned “Why are we paying taxes to a monarch that won’t/can’t even visit us in order to fuel his never-ending wars with France and everyone else?” And that was that.

My son and I just love Hamilton! The closer we get to the day he moves out for college, the more I relate to king George, “I thought that we had an arrangement when you went away…You’ll be back…It’s much harder when it’s all your call…” A mother facing an empty nest can SO relate. I will send u in a jar of candy…to remind you…of my…love La da da dot daaah

Lin-Manuel Miranda writes the whole Hamilton script and plays the lead role: Audience applauds politely King George steps on stage: Audience goes crazy
@elliotzeller6836
3 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I thought Lin-Manuel Miranda was the weakest performer of the lot. I'm not saying his performance was bad by any means; it was very good, but I would argue just about every other performer was stronger than him. Think about it, when Christopher Jackson, who was mainly subdued throughout, sang the song about Washington stepping down his presence figuratively took over the stage. Daveed Diggs as Jefferson when he was featured, same thing. I can't think of a moment where Miranda's "presence" dominated the stage. Maybe the role was written that way intentionally.

Lyrics 1. You say, The price of my love’s not a price That you’re willing to pay You cry, In your tea, which you hurl in the sea When you see me go by Why so sad, Remember we made an arrangement When you went away Now your making me mad Remember despite out estrangement I’m your man You’ll be back, soon, you’ll see You’ll remember you belong to me You’ll be back, time will tell You’ll remember that i served you well Oceans rise, empires fall We have seen each other through it all And when push comes to shove I will sent a fully armed battalion to remind you of my love! Da-da-da, dat-da, dat, da-da-da, da-ya-da Da-da, dat, dat, da-ya-da Da-da-da, dat-da, dat, da-da-da, da-ya-da Da-da, dat, dat, da You say our love is draining, And you can’t go on You’ll be the one complaining when I am gone And no don’t change the subject ‘Cause you’re my favourite subject My sweet, submissive subject My loyal, royal subject Forever and ever and ever and ever and ever You’ll be back like before I will fight the fight and win the war For your love, for your praise And I’ll love you ‘till my dying days When your gone, I’ll go mad So don’t throw away this thing we had ‘Cause when push comes to shove I will kill your friends and family to remind you of my love Da-da-da, dat-da, dat, da-da-da, da-ya-da Da-da, dat, dat, da-ya-da Da-da-da, dat-da, dat, da-da-da, da-ya-da Da-da-da, everybody! They say The price of my war’s not a price That they’re willing to pay Insane You cheat with the French Now I’m fighting with France and with Spain I’m so blue I thought that we made an arrangement When you went away You were mine to subdue Well even despite our estrangement I’ve got a small query for you What comes next, you’ve been freed Do you know how hard it is to lead You’re on your own, awesome! Wow! Do you have a clue what happens now Oceans rise, empires fall It’s much harder when it’s on your call All alone, ‘cross the sea When your people say they hate you Don’t come crawling back to me Da-da-da, dat-da, dat, da-da-da, da-ya-da Da-da-da, dat, da-ya-da-ah You’re on your own 3. They say George Washington’s yielding his power And stepping away Is that true? I wasn’t aware that was something A person could do Im complexed Are they gon to keep on replacing Whoever’s in charge If so, who’s next? There’s nobody else in their country Who looms quite as large John Adams? I know him, that cant be That’s that little guy who spoke to me All those years ago, what was it..’85? That poor man, they’re going to eat him alive Oceans rise, empires fall Next to Washington they all look small All alone, watch them run They will tear each other into pieces Jesus Christ, this will be fun! Da-da-da, dat-da, dat, da-da-da, da-ya-da Da-da-da, dat, da-ya-da-ah ahahahahah. President John Adams… Good luck!

Fun bit of history: Americans basically DID eat Adams alive (King George wasn't wrong in Song #3). The Adams presidency was marked by unrest, which Adams responded to with tyrannical and unpopular laws like the Alien and Sedition Acts, minor rebellions, and declining faith in the early American government. It was only thanks to the much more successful (and popular) subsequent presidency of Thomas Jefferson the country survived... Adams was also the first truly conservative American president (in the mold of a later Bush or Harding, perhaps)- siding with the budding merchant and banker class over the artisans, laborers, and rural farmers that made up the vast majority of the American population at the time. This, along with his infringing on the very civil liberties Americans had just fought so hard to protect (the Alien and Sedition Acts were abused to imprison journalists who criticized Adams' presidency, restrict the rights of recent Immigrants- particularly Catholics, and much more...) was part of what spawned much of the unrest under Adams...
@nathangonzalez9710
2 жыл бұрын
Uhhhh don't want to rain on your parade.....but, The alien and sedition act was popular at the time, Adam's only lost the election because he refused to go war with the French over the XYZ affair, he assumed, probably correct, that we would A lose B come under the influence of France. People like T.J. wanted a war but by the time he was sworn into office, Adam's had signed a peace treaty. Also Adam's hired farm workers of all races and hated slavery with a burning passion, and paid all of them the same wage regardless of skin color. In modern times we have reevaluated his presidency, and it is now seen as a successful one. He did coddle up to the bankers and businesses so that they could build up overseas trade for our goods and services also he expanded the navy which helped us win the war of 1812. Was he an ass, yes, but that dosnt make him a bad president.
