Fantastic work once again Luke! I love how you can quickly, but thoroughly synthetize an entire monarch´s coinage in just over 10 minutes, without cutting down on essential information :)

Luke, thanks for the effort! Great content and I learnt plenty, I'd love to find a James Scottish silver! Let me pose a statistic to you! I find quite a few Charles 1st Scottish coinage, but yet to find a James? Was the James accepted as tender in England in the same context as charles1st Scottish coinage?

Hey Bert, thank you for your comment . And thanks for the great question. Currency back then isn't like ours today. Coinage back then was based off intrinsic value, and as long as the silver was in high enough percentage and not debased, a shilling will always be 6g of silver. So it would be accepted on weight rather than what's on the coin. Secondly, I'm not 100% sure why they're not as common, could be that even when he assended to the English throne his Scottish coinage that resembled that of the English, was minted alongside the standard merk, half merk ect coinage and probably wasn't produced in high mintages. Could also be that the Scottish problem of their coinage being sent away to the continent to be melted down for profit continued.. Could be something I look into more 😎

@@TheHammeredCorner thanks Luke, definatly.something.to.investigate, before social media and internet days detecting finds of James Scottish coinage was virtually unheard off, and it seems nothing has changed these days of multiple platforms for showing your detecting finds, still you hardly see a Scottish James but frequently see Charles Scottish coinage
