I've had a hammered dulcimer sitting in the corner for years. I've watched dozens of KZitem videos on how to play and you are the 1st to tell about the key box. That explains a lot! Thank you!

Thank you! My 16/15 is scheduled to arrive in two more days and I am hyper excited. Your video is super helpful and the way you unpacked the mystery made me realize that it's simpler than I thought! Subscribed, and I'll be checking out your other videos, website and resources. 😎👍🏻

I met John Corbin around 1980 in Silver Dollar City and he blew my mind with his playing. I still have the cassette tape I bought from him. Doesn't play anymore because I wore it out. Great to hear he's still around.

Troy...you are a Godsend!! I have a 15/16 Hudson that was gifted to me in 2009 by an old musician friend of mine who was dying of pancreatic cancer; This instrument has been sitting in my upstairs closet all this time...I've only had it out a couple of times. I was so intimidated by it that I didn't know where to start. I have a granddaughter who "says" she wants to learn to play every instrument. She asked for a grand piano for Christmas!! LOL The family would have had to build on a new wing just for the piano in order to fit it in the house!! So I decided to pull the Hammered Dulcimer out of the closet hoping to get her acquainted with a quieter, smaller, more interesting instrument. She seems to be equally intimidated but your videos are encouraging. I'm ready to go over and sit with her and use your videos to help us learn how to play it. What I want to know is where you get the key guides for the instrument. That seems like one of the most helpful tools available to really learn how to play!!! You can email me at jeanneleachman@gmail.com if you help me out. I'd love to purchase them from you if you can make them available!!! Thank you!!

Wonderful video. You have simplified so much to understanding the instrument. No do you recommend a video, book or system for a beginner like to start with? Also what electronic tuner are you using. Thank you.

I used little post it stickers and slid them under the strings so that they line up from my point of view while sitting. Make sure that you check how it lines up from whatever your point of view is when playing. If you just stick them right under the strings, the notes near the top will be off from your playing point of view. I used tiny post-it rectangles with rounded edges about 1"x½". They don't damage the surface when you remove them either so that's a good way to mark the notes.
