@@adrianwhite277 We all have those we sold that we later regret. I know I do. The Ruger 10/22 Mag is crazy expensive now (if you can even find a used one for sale) and truth be told, as a shooter they really aren't worth that amount of $ people are asking for them. There are more reliable less expensive alternatives today rather than spending so much for the used and discontinued Ruger.

That looks like a significantly upgraded version that Steyr discontinued which was unfortunately a pile of junk. Mine has a loose barrel which I sent back and they tightened it significantly but not enough to make it accurate. Add that to the scout stock which was made of toy store quality plastic. love everything about it except the barrel to action connection. I would be a buyer if I could dream up a way to lock those two parts someway consistently. Yeah, target rifle it is. I think, given the reviews of both the Hammerli and Ruger Precision you have done, I would opt for the Ruger. Its cheaper and like you said you can add an aftermarket barrel to the Ruger that will really increase the accuracy. The quick change feature is nice on that Hammerli but with the importance of barrel lockup in the action I would consider that a weak point. I have a Tac 22 that is very accurate so I was kind of hoping the Force would be that kind of accurate.

Not usually a fan of straight pull actions as it to me ha no advantage when there’s still a big ol bolt coming back (breaking cheek weld depending on stock and optic) BUT that’s not the case here so hmmm…. 🤔 would have to shoot one to say anything.
@OhSoddit
8 ай бұрын
Well, "it depends". Perhaps like a comparison between the .303 SMLE and the German Mauser? It DOES DEPEND on the rifle whether or not you can maintain a shooting position (cheek weld and aim) and operate the bolt - or not. I did see a vid comparing the SMLE and Mauser, the rearward movement on the bolt of the Mauser required your head to be moved (or you'd get a bolt in the eye socket), whereas the SMLE could be "rapid fired" without breaking cheek weld. I believe the British record in WW2 was 37 hits in under a minute (that's EXTREME rapid fire, given it only had a 10 rnd magazine and was fed from stripper clips!!). Learning the technique in that vid, I've been able to consistently fire 10 aimed rounds in under 10 seconds using my Brno mod 2 bolt action 22lr. Keeping my index finger over the bolt, and using middle finger for the trigger, I could "train my brain" to THINK back - forward (instead of up - back - forward - down) and my hand followed the thought pattern. With a bit of practice, it's close to the speed of a pump action. I've never used a "straight pull" action (yet).

You proved that longer the shot cup is in contact with rifeling larger the pattern, this being said the short barrel shotguns like shockwave might benefit from a rifeled (slug barrel?) since the 14 inch barrel they have still gives a tighter than desirable pattern for close quarter home defense. This might make a good topic for a competent utuber like you. Cheers

It's a great pistol for the price. I also have a Ruger 22/45 in which I can say the same for it except since it is an earlier version, it's not too easy to maintain. The Ruger does cost more than the Taurus, and the new ones are easier to maintain. Yes, they are two different styles of pistols, but you can't go wrong with either of those in my humble opinion. I've always wondered why no company hasn't made a miniature version of the old Swiss straight pull bolts for .22 magnum and above since it is a locked breech design and very fast shooting. Another action you probably haven't seen is the Marlin short throw lever action that they used over a half century ago with their .22 magnum rifles. I had one as a kid. Very little lever travel needed to load the next round. You don't even need to take your trigger finger off the trigger; just flick the lever down and back with two fingers while still holding on to the pistol grip. Those too would work well with a suppression and they are accurate rifles.
