Thanks, I've had a chance to get it out a few times now and its working out great. Have made a couple changes. Have had a couple good nights rain and have stayed mostly dry, 1st night was a hard rain and got a little splash or blow in but was dry for the most part.

Thanks. Had it out in an all night downpour this weekend and it did great. The tarp was pitched a little high and I got a little splash back but as hard of a rain as we had I was glad to make it through the night without it being any worse. I'm still learning!

Thanks, we need to plan a hammock trip sometime. Felt a little on the outside this weekend at the Sipsey outnumbered 5 tents to 1 hammock. That said, the tent guys sure did enjoy hanging out under the tarp cooking breakfast and waiting for the rain to stop so they could pack up. So with the hammock down the tarp will accommodate 6 people in camp chairs.

You explained a lot of stuff better then the manufacturer. Thanks for the video, I'm still learning, I don't get to go out enough. I really like what dutch has available some of those titanium clips really get my pack weight down, some of the easiest weight drops I have had. I'm pretty much there I guess. if I would have been watching more YT earlier I would have saved thousands in trial and error lol, I think we all end up with about the same set up when we're there. If we have the best and lightest, we all have the same stuff lol, or pretty dang close. I have all that in tent gear too but rarely to never use it. Thanks again for the info. I still learn from these, I'm still a newbe and sometimes gives me the thought that I'm on the right track or maybe I need to try something a little different

Thank you. I love gear, so while I've spent more money than I will ever let my wife know, I like the trial and error phase and like to change things up often. When I finally get something dialed in then I start wanting something new to tinker with. I think the set up in this video made it on one trip and before I changed up the guylines. One thing I hear people talk about when getting into hammocking is about the tinker factor and I think that scares some people off. Me on the other hand, the tinkering has been one of the parts I love the most.

Soft shackles, woopie slings, and prusic knots awesome. My favorite part building suspension. I built all my hammock gear myself. 11.5 jungle hammock,12' hex tarp with snake skins, full length underquilt " Sinthetic insulation because evything is wet here in Louisanna " and underquilt protector. Also for hammock suspincion woopie slings with a UCR ridge line. Next on the list is top quilt and will also be building a winter tarp with doors. Dynema is a bit on the costly side so might just stick to my regular material. Love the way you experiment and test setup. My 12 hex tarp uses two piece ridgeline but after seeing your continuous ridgeline iam thinkig of converting over to the continuous ridge line.

Thanks. I think the tinker factor scares some people away from hammock camping, I love it. One day I would like to start making more of my own gear but my sewing skills are pretty weak. I do have a design in mind for a small tarp that I might give a go one day.

@@Caveman_OS_Hiking so far the hardest thing to sew is tarp edge because its slick. LOL I use clips and roll the tarp edges ahead of time and my machine has a needle down feature so just stop every so many inches make sure no loose material gets caught under needle. You can raise the foot with needle down to readjust. I always sew from left to right makes making corners easier. Once you get started you will be wanting to make everything.

Very cool! Like the light leek through, like a privacy film on bathroom windows. How does it effect the underworld when the sun beats down on it? Does it reflect solar heat, neutralize, or multiply it? Has anyone made a hammock yet?
@Caveman_OS_Hiking

Don't think it really does much to cancel or intensify the heat, I typically do not spend much time under tarp during the day unless its raining then sun is not so much an issue. But if you are a person who is a light sensitive sleeper I could see if being an issue, especially on full moon nights or early mornings. As dyneema does not breath at all I do not think it would make good Hammock material. Any sweat or condensation would pool up and you would wake up in a puddle. Plus it had little to no stretch. This is most likely why we don't see dyneema being used for items that touch the skin like rain wear or quilts.

YES! You are a hammock master mind! Loved the intro and the knots you tied. That is truly next level! Thanks for sharing what this tarp looks like as it is on my radar. If that happens, I will need you to help me with these prostyle guy lines! Did you take this on the PMT?

Thanks Metro. Would be glad to help you out. I did take it the PMT a couple weekends ago and was a good test as it rained all night with some hard storms and heavy rain. I got a little splash back or blow in under the tarp. My shoes got wet and my UQ got just a tiny bit wet. I have made some adjustments to my pitch and changed out the guys lines. Took it to Sipsey this weekend and had another good nights rain and everything stayed dry. Learning as I go!

I see that hammock gear says you should roll the tarp panels before putting it in the snakeskin, which I see you did. How do you roll it like that??? It doesn't strike me that it can be done while it's hanging
@Caveman_OS_Hiking
Жыл бұрын
I'll Try to explain the best I can, and this is just how I do it. While hanging I start at the snake skin end at the end of the doors where the tie-outs are and start rolling from there. After a couple rolls, I grab the tie-out and toss them up in the roll. After I get a few feet down, or to the point where to rolled part is getting near the ridge line I start pulling the snake skins on. Roll a little, then pull the skins till I get the end. I hope this makes since, I'll try to make a quick video soon. That said, this is just how I do it. Thanks for watching.

i love your hang… except for such tiny dyneema lines damaging the bark, essentially killing the trees… please use straps or something between lines and bark to keep from injuring… thanks
@Caveman_OS_Hiking

I use 1 inch tree straps for the hammock which takes the weight. I always check to make sure they are not twisted and often will double or triple wrap them to better distribute the weight. The dyneema line is just for the tarp which takes no weight. Both are standard use for most hammock/tarp set ups. I have never noticed any damage to the trees bark once done with my hangs.
