VIDEO DETAILS
Saturday 27 January 2024 and a Wildlife Guardian investigator was just north of Alton monitoring the Hampshire Hunt.
The hunt met at Derby Dell Buildings at Lasham at 11:00, leaving the meet at 11:20 towards Lasham Village where they began hunting in woodland behind the garden centre. Despite an illegal hunt quad buzzing about, it was not seen at any point laying trails.
To jump ahead a couple of hours and at 13:22 our investigator was driving down Gravel Lane and noticed deer running from the direction of Lasham Wood. A short time after, what appeared to be the majority of the pack came running down the hill in full cry and straight into a field of horses and also across the road. The hounds then completely invaded the field where there must have been about 15 horses, who turned and ran as a tight herd, toward the hounds. This was not only very dangerous for the horses but also a more dangerous situation for the hounds. The hounds then picked up the line of the fox (as no trail would have been laid here!!) and in the background the huntsman can be heard doubling his horn encouraging them on.
The hounds then ran in front of a car terrifying the poor driver who was just a member of the public. She had to stop as she was very shaken by all the hounds running out.
The hounds continued on through the horse fields and alongside some more horse enclosures where there must have been over 100 horses, all of whom were running about, clearly spooked by the hounds.
We later found out that the horses were in the grounds of a horse assisted therapy centre, whom I am sure were none too happy with the hunt. Bear in mind, many of those horses could have been in foal.
Only a few weeks after an alpaca was killed by the Tiverton Staghounds, and just a few days after the North Dorset Hunt Saboteurs expose of the BSV, hunts are not keeping their heads down, but still hunting foxes, acting dangerously and recklessly without a care in the world.
This is not acceptable!! Time to strengthen the Hunting Act.
