So underrated this band. Never got their due. Made fun of - and they deserve much much more recognition.

Anthony V. They won a Grammy and have sold over 100mil records and are still performing today, I don’t think that’s underrated at all. I don’t remember them being made fun of but even if they were, all sorts of famous people are made fun of everyday, it comes with being famous But there was a D J that started an anti disco movement

Agree completely. They were indeed made fun of routinely by hard rockers, the zeppelin lovers, using critics, etc, as being light and not real music. As these people have matured and realized they had a stick or their heads up their asses, they’ve realized the greatness in music like this.

Man, KC and the Sunshine Band affects music reactors like nothing else I've seen. The group just makes people happy. Also, as someone who was alive when this song was popular, it made me want to do one of those line-dance Hustles from the mid-seventies that we all used to do (our 5th-grade gym teacher actually taught us how to do it out on the playground during PE).

To my understanding, KC and The Sunshine were responsible for starting the Disco era. In 1973, while making demos KC and drummer Richard Finch created an infectious sound using a drum and Roland rhythm machine that would forever change music. Gwen McCrae was asked to record the vocals for the song but was unavailable. Her husband George stepped in, and the rest is history. 'Rock Your Baby' became a massive international hit. Gwen McCrae would go on to have a huge hit herself with 'Rockin Chair' .ABBA also cited 'Rock Your Baby'' as an inspiration for the backing track of their massive hit 'Dancing Queen'. Far as KC and the Sunshine Band, they would go on to have three Number 1 hits on both the Pop and R&B charts with 'That's the way I like it', 'Get Down Tonight' and 'Shake Your Booty'.

Harry Wanye Casey is one of the great all time writers. Not only did he have a bunch of great hits with the Sunshine Band in the 70s and 80s, he also wrote "Rock Your Baby" for George McRae, which was #1 in 1974. 20 years later, he co-wrote "Connected" by Stereo MCs, which was a staple on MTV. And (biggest shock of all), he was a co-writer on "Gin and Juice" by Snoop Dogg!

When we came in, Mom was dancing at the kitchen sink washing dishes, listening to this song. She said " Come dance with Mommy" so I immediately started dancing. Walt cracked up and said " I wish my Mom was cool like that" She told him. " Don't stand there Walt, jump right in" It was a cool day. He tells people bout that still. Thanks for bringing that back

on this same day you reacted to Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys, widely considered to be a masterpiece of pop music - a mini symphony - an innovative production that inspired the Beatles to make Sgt Peppers. And then you react to this song by KC, who was always dismissed by contemporary critics as bubblegum music - instantly disposable. But the true test is when you put that song on - which one speaks to you - which one makes you want to dance - which one grabs you to sing along. Clearly you guys enjoyed this slice of 70s soul way more than the Beach Boys song, but that's cool. Good music will always be good music.
