Like other sports, badminton uses hand signals to facilitate communication among the many badminton officials, between badminton officials and players, as well as among badminton players.
•Hand signals from the umpire
The official in charge of a particular game is known as an umpire, as we mentioned in our post on badminton officials. The umpire does not have a wide range of customary hand signals to communicate with other officials because he or she is the one who ultimately makes the decision and is typically the end recipient of the message rather than the sender.
•Hand signals from the service judge
Due to his obligation to promptly inform the umpire of any fault, the service judge has access to significantly more hand signals than the umpire.
•Hand signals from the line judge
As service judges, line judges can use a variety of hand gestures. They have significantly fewer hand signals to utilize, though, because their job is to indicate whether the shuttlecock landed in or out.
