You should reem the pipe first so the pipe doesn’t expand I’ve had it happen personally I deemed the pipe after threading just a helping tip

Nifty. Thanks for the instruction. I've been going through my dad's old tools and found an antique Toledo ratchet threader with a 3/4" die. Probably was my grandpa's , as he was a plumber. Found this other old die, but it doesn't quite fit. I had a hell of a time figuring out what company it was from because someone painted over the printing, but I think it must say Capewell Manufacturing Co (Hartford, Conn) , and I think the metal part says Vosler. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to fit the other ratchet, and I can't find anything online that looks quite like it. Kind of weird he would have the die without a matching ratchet, but then he probably just found that one at Goodwill (knowing my dad.) Anyway, not sure I have all the proper equipment there, but that looks fun. :)

Does this tap make a standar thread? I need to thread pipes to build pipe clamps, but I don't know which tap to buy. Since here where I live Home Depot doesn't thread the pipes not even paying. Thank you

Really nice video. Thanks for sharing with us your expertise. I was installing a propane tank. So I needed to cut certain lengths of pipe and thereby purchased a pipe cutter and the ratchet pipe threader you used in the demonstration. My fittings would not screw onto the pipe that was cut. What happened? The fittings would screw onto the pipe threads that were done by manufacturer. Did I buy the wrong threader or was it faulty? Appreciate anyone's input regarding this puzzle. Thanks so much and Jesus bless.

On the job site, can you use your linesman's to ream the pipe?
@johnfagan2156
7 жыл бұрын
Lineman's works OK on thin wall tubing, EMT, but this is pipe. Rigid, RMC is made the same and is much heavier. A reamer works best but a round file also works. On a "job site" if you are already set up to cut and thread pipe or conduit you would already probably have a reamer too.

I was looking on Amazon and it looks like most these threaders get bad reviews. Is it because people are doing it wrong or are most the threaders pretty bad? Can you recommend some good ones? Is there a reason a tap and die set for bolts can’t be used on pipe? Is pipe metal harder or something? Thanks for the video.
