I can’t believe some people say that they don’t like the way the actor’s facial expression. It is a film abt a castrated boy.. He expresses what he’s been through since he was stolen his body, mind and love at that moment. Not just a Rinaldo. He couldn’t choose to express to soley cry, sing, or roar but mixed a lot of things. He was stood there his heart beaten and wonded.

This quite extraordinary scene never fails to bring tears to my eyes. In the midst of the beautiful singing, the sublime singing, the politics between the composers Handel, Porpora and Broschi and the bigger political battle between the Prince of Wales and his father George II, there is the magnificently understated scene of the newly castrated boy placed in a bath of milk as blood slowly rises to the top. Such terrible abuse of children, tolerated for so long, is presented in this background of one of the most beautiful pieces of music there is.

"Lascia ch'io pianga" is a famous aria from George Frideric Handel's opera "Rinaldo." The aria is sung by the character Almirena, who is lamenting her fate. Here is the English translation of the Italian lyrics: Lascia ch'io pianga (Let me weep) Lascia ch'io pianga (Let me weep) La cruda sorte, (My cruel fate,) E che sospiri (And that I long) La libertà! (For freedom!) Il duolo infranga (Let sorrow break) Queste ritorte (These chains) De' miei martiri (Of my sufferings) Sol per pietà. (Only for pity's sake.) The aria expresses a deep sense of sorrow and longing for freedom, conveyed through its beautiful and moving melody. Handel's music, combined with the poignant lyrics, has made "Lascia ch'io pianga" one of the most enduring and beloved arias in the classical repertoire.

I just listened to about 8 versions of it, mostly sopranos, a couple of counter-tenors. This version blows them all away--more emotional, more beautiful. The clarity of her voice is phenomenal.

Esta voz é divina, e por pensar que perto do verdadeiro cantor esta muito distante, é surreal.
