My first nice amp was an OG block letter 5150 my dad got me when I was a teenager in 1996. We were kinda poor but my dad and I both loved Eddie and I was getting good at the guitar so he went for it. Solid guy. A few years later in college I thought it was cooler to have a Marshall so I traded it for a JCM 2000 TSL 60w. Yeah... 60 w. I'm a total douche. I still have that stupid TSL. Now that I'm the same age as my dad was then, and he's gone from the earth, that TSL reminds me of how cool my dad was and how stupid I was. I'm a doctor now and very grateful so have a little money so bought all the 5150s. I wish I could give them all to my dad. RIP dad. I know you know that I was as stupid as you were once.

*Mesa rectifiers have become the staple sound of metal, and you mentioned the real culprit above all others which is being scooped and having some grain or rasp to it.* For at least the last 20 years, every amp and every mod I've employed is scooping mids, having a lot of bass, moderate treble and a good amount of grit and rasp, but being I'm primarily a solid-state guy, it's a PITA to tame the high even order harmonics that semiconductors are plagued with. *This is why digital is certain to take over, they've basically nailed tube fizz and zing, and the chip architecture being manufactured has finally been adapted for asymmetrical clipping and resolving at least some of the high even order harmonic content.* I'm a bit late to the game, but my s.s. analog designs created from the ground up still do it significantly better than the most expensive digital gear around outside of something like a Kemper. *The mod you added to resolve this amp's failures is relative to something I'm designing and building using solid-state, but perfectly confident mine will do it way better and for any type of amp technology.*
@Jootn2kx

Using best of both worlds tube + solidstate is the way to go for me :-)
@JonDeth
Күн бұрын
@@Jootn2kx I just got a Zoom MS-50G+ that I ran straight into my Carvin V3 and holy shit! It's the ultimate tube rig of the 3 I own and the various tube preamps I own. I'm also an electronics engineer and people misunderstand digital deeply. It's still a solid-state technology dependent on semiconductors and those devices in themselves are 100% analog, but they can be operated in a digital mode which is ultimately known as pulsating D.C., memory systems and gets deeply into quantum physics that I know well but won't elaborate on. Anyway, hybrid in general is the future. Even though I'm a shred-sweep metal and instrumental player, I prefer solid-state when all is said and done. While it sounds ratty compared to the best valve gear, it's actually that the sound fidelity is far superior and so any noise generated from strings, hardware, your fingers or electrical is magnified by insane factors. Once I'm really good and warmed up which I usually do on valves, I play clean enough through the most complex of material and you can hear solid-state is ultimately superior in performance but very unforgiving to flaws in the mix of events. Anyway, my goal is by the end of next year, I will have my own digital processor based on Arduino finished but I will also incorporate a significant amount of analog stages to resolve the textures and other traits we dislike digital for. Digital is now ultimately nailing tube texture really well until you crank the digital source's gain super high. Then it reverts to the "plastic gunk" we know digital for. Through my Carvin V3 though, even with a ton of digital gain it sounds 100% valve. I have a lot of processors, but that new Zoom is in a league all it's own. My Zoom G5 is superior which has a 12AX7 in it, but the most recent digital units are on the cusp of taking over sales within every consumer demographic of guitarists.

Hello, this is my first video here. Great job. I am a bass player, and when the band came off tour for the last time, my guitarist needed money to start his new path in life. so I thought i was helping him with buying his ?1997? Dual Rec. I had only ever heard it on large stages. We had a case maker design flight cases, so we didnt have to take them out of the case. We just removed the front lid/front and unsealed a small plate in the back to plug into. Let me tell you, he did me the solid by selling it to me. Holy S#!+ ! I have had duals paired with the oversized cabs 8-10 times in my studio prior to this point. This THING is a monster! It stays inside the stag/flight case with the front off. The low end is so HUGE yet it sounds so translucent with a face melting sound. Your gutz RuMbLe. Now, saying that when I take it out of the case it sounds like every other oversized Mesa cab. If you can recreate this in any of your own studios, this is a MUST DO!!! But what do I know, I'm just a bass player. ;) Nice channel BTW. Keep it up!

There are few amps that sound as brutal as a rectifier with a boost. It just always annoyed me that my Roadster always sounded flubby without the boost so I spent more time turning knobs than playing. In addition to the sound, without the boost it was also lacking that awesome feel when palm muting like you are taming a beast, which gets loose when you stop palm muting. It was just always the same level. With the boost it sounded absolutely crushing though, much like the tone in your video. Sometimes when I hear a great rectifier tone I do regret selling it.

Today 9/2023 this amp would be on Reverb for something crazy like $25k. I just bought a Dual 3 channel Multi-Watt and to be honest. I really don't notice much difference from the Rev. C and this Multi Watt. I got way WAY more controls to get all kinds of different tones, 100/50 switch for all channels, Rectifier diode or spongy for each channel, foot pedal with loop, mute and the master Output knob takes the over all of all 3 channels down equally as well as the variable solo with button on Footswitch. That's a lot of controls and that's not all of what it can do.... So do I miss my Rev. C ? Not really.....but I'd love to have had it to sell at this market which is over inflated in my opinion and way over hyped.....(Thanks Fluff...lol)

Kyle... Clone vintage to modern(meaning being on orange but have red gain and both presence active), max mids, zero treble (on vintage channel this effects the mid peak point, anything south of 9 OC on the treble will do this with mids maxed) use Vintage channel presence as treble and Red presence as presence. (both presence are active when you clone red to orange) NO ONE talks about this trick anymore.... with that mr scary thing you may not need the TS but no one will judge if you keep it inline XD... Also does this mean those OLD SKOOL hot mods with the weird tube will work in rectifiers?

Definitely NO on the old school Soldano version of the Hot Mod. The reason being is the original Hot Mod ties the heater pins 4 and 5 together. This means it will work on the older Marshals but not many or most of the new amps that use various types of filament wiring.

17:30 were you "soaked in torment" while recording those riffs ? This amp sounds like an All Out War. Joke aside : sick Recto tones
