Thanks for the Review! I have been keeping my eye on the fuji Mk lenses for awhile. I would love to see a side by side comparison between these lenses and the Dzofilm pictor Cine zooms. They both have pros and cons depending on ones style of shooting: 1) Zoom range: Mk wins (18-135) 2) Light weight: Mk wins (2lbs) 3) Focus breathing 18-55: Tie 4) Focus breathing 50-135: Mk wins 5) Macro focus: Mk wins 6) Cost: Dzofilm wins 7) Fits other cameras: Dzofilm wins (pl and ef mount) better long term investment? 8) Allows for rf to ef/pl ND Adapters: Dzofilm wins 9) Metal construction: Dzofilm wins 10) Cinematic image (non clinical): I think they both look good, however I am leaning towards Dzofilm Pictor at the moment based on images I have seen so far. That being said, I have not seen them side by side yet. Thanks again for your review!

Depends on your budget: from what I am seeing the Pictor Zooms have a similar bokeh to the Fujis. The Pictor Zooms each weigh about a pound more than their Fuji equivalents, but still have amazing build quality, interchangeable EF or PL mounts, are parfocal, match nicely with the Tokina 11 - 20 Cine, and come in a hard case if you buy them in a bundle. Biggest decision between the two for me was that you could buy both Pictor Zooms for the price of a single Fuji. But, if you want the ease of the back-focus, need one less pound on each lens, want native RF lenses for your Komodo/Canon, and have the extra $5k to spend on an established brand--the Fujis may be the right option for you.

Amazing video as always Joey, would love to see some footage from sigma photo glass vs cine glass and understand your thoughts on whether cine glass is necessary to get the most out of this camera. I’m thinking about getting the Komodo, but can’t afford cine lenses straight away. I’m trying to work out if I’m best getting a BMPCC + a good cine lens... or a Komodo and a couple of Sigma art’s until I can afford some nicer glass. I stand by Sigma art when it comes to photography... no clue about video tho! Thanks in advance! Have a fab New Years.
@Joey_Helms
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Charlie. This is easy. I adore sigma art lenses and the image quality between photo glass and their cinema twins are usually exactly the same. The biggest difference is gearing, de-clicked iris, larger focus rotation, reduced Breathing and parfocality. So depending on how you shoot you may not need cine glass. In fact for most I do I don't need cine glass. Just occasionally, for that one shot, it comes in handy.
@CharlieRayner

Awesome, thank you Joey! Tbh I’ll be using the Komodo for more of a run & gun documentary style setup so using the autofocus (can’t wait for RED to push updates for this!!) and some sigma photo glass sounds like it’ll be perfect. Out of curiosity, I believe you use the Sigma 18-35 DC - do you find this lens pretty rock solid for most applications or would you advise on picking anything else up too? I appreciate your knowledge when it comes to this - your videos are produced so beautifully, they’re chocked full of information, and they’re entertaining. Fuji MKs and DZO Pictors are def NOT in a similar price range. DZOs are just a little over half the cost for a set. For many shooters the difference in performance may not be worth twice the price. The sharpness (which is the most important factor for my line of work) was worth the extra $$ but I did consider the Pictors before pulling the trigger on the Fuji MKs.

@@Joey_Helms I’ve been saving up for this lens. 18-55 covers what I use. Maybe I grab the tele one but probably not. Also gonna add Laowa zero-d 15mm and 9mm. But this Fujinon with Komodo combo is amazing! Look mint and very cinematic. Was curious if you fixed the RS2 shaking with the long lens? I am getting extra 200g weights from Smallrig to add to their extended rs2 plate with lens support, plus 2 bp955 bats so there is more weight in the back to compensate the long lens. Will still power off vmount though. Just want it to run well on gimbal as I’m buying into Titla’s RS2 accessories.
@Joey_Helms
3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the shaking was not due to the weight but the raveneye couldn't track a subject at the longer focal lengths. At least not a medium shot of a person. Weight-wise they balance better/equal to the Tokina 11-20. Sounds like you are well equipped but don't plan on using the raveneye on the long lens

Hi Joey. My copy of the 18-55 MK-R does vignette on the Komodo at 18mm, but goes away at about 20mm (at 6K 17:9). I asked Matt Duclos about this and he said that sounds right. Vignetting at 18mm, gone about 20mm. A tiny bit of wobble on the Komodo RF mount without a lens support. Otherwise a great lens. Keep posting your awesome reviews!

@@Joey_Helms If you take a tiny piece of “slick” masking tape, appx 1/3” square and place it on the top front edge of the RF mount then screw the MK zoom on the wobble will go away. The down side is some adhesive could come off and eventually spread, so do it with care if you do it at all. But, that shows you how small the gap is.
