The output of the inverter it's a modified sinewave, not a pure sinewave. The outlet tester is not true rms, that's why it's picking up 90 volts. The multimeter that you're using it's true rms, that why it's measuring the correct voltage of the modified sinewave. There is nothing wrong with the outlet tester, it will only measure the correct voltage with a pure sinewave.

@@lastbesttool Thanks for replying. Thanks for being open-minded. Even many pro electricians, don't know the difference between a true arms vs averaging measurements. I found a vid that explains what's the difference is. kzitem.info/news/bejne/mJ-ok456foyLrXo

I doubt many people are using this in a Boat or a Camper - they are using it their 'structure' connected to any 'regularly' found power in the walls of their home or business - that's much more often than not pure sine wave juice - this device will work fine ........

Sometimes will trip the GFCI ( if there is one wired, many boxes away from any one wall plate you are testing ) - so make sure you know where they are and that they have been reset - otherwise a very straightforward device .

The ground is not bounded to the neutral. That's why you will get a fault. But other that that it's OK to u. You will not be powering a microwave or a power tool with that 😱😁😱
