This video brought back memories for me as well. When I got a ZTR (mine was a bit more pricy because I bought it new) but I removed the mowing deck and turned my green rider into a cart for my wife to pull around a little dump trailer. That became its new full time job to carry around all her stuff. The original goal included being a dump trailer (nope)…she said if it was more than a small amount, my front end loader was getting the job because she had all her tools where she wanted them. I also purchased a pull behind plug aerator but the soil type in my area required more weight than what I wanted to strap on the shelf. You don’t know until you try. I made it work using cinder blocks stacked up but didn’t like the change (center of gravity) that was created and didn’t have anything more dense on hand. It wasn’t a primary function as much as it was “hey that could be a good thing to help the worms”. If it was important enough, I would have filled the cavities with concrete to get more weight.

Having had my own little yard cart to drag around behind my own rider mower I would recommend storing it to tip it back, not down on the tongue and possibly even block the tailgate up so that any rainwater that gets it will easily wash out. There are probably weep holes in the front corners in order to drain, but you’ll find they get easily clogged, and it will hold water that will do damage to your trailer. A second option could be too find a way to hang it off the sidewall of your shop with the opened end to the shop. It’s fairly simple. You just put a cleat about the height of the cart so that you can back it up to it then just lift the cart up and push it against the wall so that it’s sitting on the cleat and have side cleats that can turn to hold it, or two blocks on either side of the tongue that you could put a pin through or you could simply put two eyelets one on either side and use a strap which would secure it to the wall. Basically a way to keep it up and out of the weather so that it will last longer.

Great dad and daughter time, great for both of you. I had one of those little trailers for the ride on and added a good flap of rubber under the rear edge to protect it while dumping. When the paint is shredded off those things rust like crazy if you don’t repaint often. Still a very handy little cart for the odd jobs, like fencing, carrying tools etc.

Good help is apparently easy to find for you. My helper from 35 or 40 years ago, just drove off with one of my tractors and my riding mower, and I suspect his "helper" is going to get some riding done on both tomorrow. Well done in the Dad department sir! Take care.

This one just makes me smile big time, Cap’n. Thanks for the video. I became caretaker of the family 318 and the old homemade wagon (painted JD green and stickered appropriately) that my grandfather pulled out of a collapsed barn during a salvage job. I got a picture of me driving the 318 and my daughter riding in the wagon that’s not far off of a picture of my dad driving the same tractor and me riding in the wagon. There’s not a thing in the world that can wipe the smile off my face when I think about that. Annnnnd much like I did back many years ago, my daughter has already claimed my 318 as hers. The laugh I heard when I told my dad that . . . man, the world goes in some circle. 😂

I bought that same trailer from Vevor back in April. Definitely would've been much easier with a second set of hands, but I managed to get it together on my own. My only issue is the support for the bed of the trailer is a bit flimsy. I plan on having someone weld up all the seams and connecting points (prefer solid welds instead of nuts and bolts) and add some bracing on the bottom of the trailer...someday...maybe. So far, I know I've exceeded the weight limit of the trailer several times and it has held up. I've certainly put it through my own version of Kleeman Proof Testing! My Husqvarna 42" riding lawnmower with the hydrostatic transmission is strong enough to handle the 750 plus pounds of weight plus my own 186 pounds! Wouldn't use the older belt driven lawn mowers. I think it would result in early belt wear and shredding.
