Thanks for the video but I think there's a mistake in interpretation of the intermittent welds. The spacing distance of 3" called pitch is center-to-center distance. It's not end-to-start distance as you said. Please check and let us know.
@hangingwithheavy2113
5 жыл бұрын
kossivi you are correct the distance measured is from center to center however for ease of understanding the distance is the same if you measure from the end of one to the end of the other, or you measure from the start of one to the start of another, the spacing the same. I believe I stated that the distance is measured c to c but gave other options for ease of understanding. To understand this process lay out your weld center to center to the correct size, and space....now measure from the end of one weld to the end of the other, same spacing distance. I would explain to my students the C to C spacing but once I showed them the alternate way of layout it became very clear to them.

What’s throwing people off is your DRAWING is showing the 3” dimension from the end of the weld to start of the next weld. See your drawing.

Quick Question! I’m only a student and I’m curious about the intermittent weld. I was taught that the spacing between the welds are measured centre-to-centre, not from one end to the other. You seem to know what you’re talking about, could you please clarify this for me?
@igorvannucci

It's the same distance, from one center to the other and from one end to the other
@hangingwithheavy2113
6 жыл бұрын
The distance from the end of one weld to the end of the other is the same as the center to center spacing. Take and lay out the first two welds 3-8 for example on a piece of steel. Now measure from the end of one weld to the end of the other. You will see that the spacing is spot on. You are not "Just a student" you are on the way to becoming a highly skilled, highly qualified welder, earning fair and honest wages. We all started with that first arc.

@@hangingwithheavy2113 Thank you sir for such a video. Sorry but the distance in between from end to end is suppose to be 2 not 3 if the center to center is 3. if you make 3 to be the distance in between as you have said, center to center becomes 4 which is wrong.

In D1.1 weld spacing measurements say 3on12 would be 12 inches overall "3in weld 9in spacing 3in weld 9in spacing" it would measure 12in center to center of weld. They way you showed is the European method

Good video but you have an error. On the intermitting weld symbol you state it is on center to center but show the spacing. In the video you have a 1 - 3 (L - P). The weld would be welded as 1" and have a 2" space between weld. the easy way to do this is take the Pitch minus the length. 3-1=2. Thank you everyone.

true it is but as a pipe welder I think of center to center which is how we measure things. ! inch of weld on 3 inch centers. Now if you measure from the end of one to the end of the other you will see that works out for laying out your welds.

#d that would depend upon the joint design, Naturally an overlap type weld would be a fillet, a but joint same thing. Keep in mind the weld joints Butt, lap corner, edge, and tee type joints. Now the joint design may be something else like a deep groove for semi auto welding, but it all goes back to the 5 joint designs.

Manuel I ask you to do the following using a piece of cardboard and a marker. Now lay out maybe a three foot section of the cardboard in 4 inches of weld on 12 inch centers. now this is exactly correct you are right here; to the answer on the CWI test. Now measure from the end of one weld to the end of the other. My point was after you get the first one laid out the end of one weld to the end of the other is an easy way to lay out a long section of incremental welds. You are correct though on the spacing. having laid out many sections of this type of welds is easy to learn and quick.

the field is where the welding is to take place out side of the fab shop. For example you may fabricate a stair in the shop but when it is installed it will require welding "In the Field" great question I am sure many were asking the same thing.
