Long after the war with the demon Raavan, suddenly lord Ram realized that his period as an incarnation has come to an end. SO he asked Yama (god of death) to come and fetch him. Yama stated that Ram is way past his time but Yama himself could not come to fetch him as lord Hanuman happened to be guarding the doors of Ayodhya. Lord Hanuman would not let Yama pass and Yama was frightened of Hanuman. Hanuman had kept the death away from his lord. Things have to move on and it was time for lord Ram to move on as well.
So one day lord Ram dropped his ring down a crack in the Ayodhya palace. Then he asked Hanuman to go find the lost ring. Hanuman then shrunk in size of an insect and went down the crack. The crack was no ordinary crack but a door to go to the serpent world. In the serpent world, Hanuman met Vasuki (king of the snakes) and he asked Vasuki of lord Ram’s ring. Vasuki then took Hanuman to a mountain of rings. Vasuki then said lord Ram’s ring must be in there. Hanuman then wondered how he could find the correct ring among all those rings, it seemed practically impossible.
Hanuman had to eventually pick a ring. To his utmost surprise, it was Lord Ram’s ring. Then he picked another one. It was also Lord Ram’s ring. In fact all rings there were Lord Ram’s ring. This series of event confused Hanuman. Then Vasuki smiled and said, the world we all live in cycles through life and death and even the time itself. He added, one cycle is one kalp and one kalp had four quadrants. In second quadrant lied Tret yug, where Ram takes birth in Ayodhya. Then one day a ring falls down from earth to the snake realm. And a monkey would come searching for that ring. And in absence of that monkey, Lord Ram up in the earth dies.
So it has been hundreds of thousands of those kalpas which have come to pass among multiple parallel universes. There had already been those many Rams as there were rings in that mountain; endless. And Vasuki concluded, there is enough space for all the future Ram’s rings too. Hanuman finally realized that the turn of events were no accident. But it was Lord Ram’s way of telling him about his multiple incarnations in all those multiple parallel universes. Ram would die, the world would die. But the cycle never breaks. The cycle would repeat again and again.
This was it. The concept of multiple parallel dimensions was already stated in the epics of Hindu religion thousands of years ago.
