Very well choreographed. I am seeing this song first time in traditional outfit and in it's original form. Otherwise there are many Anglo versions of this song. Seems like the programme was shot in North India. Audience wearing warmers and have no idea what's going on.

MEANING OF THE ABOVE KONKANI SONG: She is telling we are Kalavat (Tamasha Dancers) and we are invited to perform our dance in Damu's marriage. But, we don't know the way to reach there. "Would you please show us the way?" She asks. Historically, lavani performers belonged majorly to the Bhatu, Kalwat, Kolhati, Mahar, Matangi and Dombari castes. So, it is natural that they will look like Lavani Dancers (Question asked by Chari in comments below). Isn't it? Chari doesn't understand Goan Konkani and so he didn't understand meaning of what they are saying. They are telling the Hodiwala (one who is running the boat service) to take them across the river where they are supposed to do their Lavani type performance in Damu's wedding. But, they say they don't know the way. Makka Saiba Vat Kalo Na. In Marathi it would be translated as "मला साहेबा वाट कळत नाही". Then, the song is initially sung by the leading lady Tamasgir (in Marathi). The chorus is provided by other ladies. She is ready to offer him Nose Pin (नाकातली नथ) made of Gold and Paijan (Nupur) worn around legs made of silver if he takes them across. She offers it as his Fees/Charges to take them across in his boat. He says Maka Naka Go. Means "I don't want". He tells her what do I do with her ornaments? Then, she tells him I have worn Gajra made of Mogra and ready to sit near him (basically, she is luring him). He tells her He isn't interested. She then pleads a lot saying if he doesn't take them across they will miss the show. She tells him she is ready to show some dance right before him. He then, agrees to take them all as that is REAL FEE he was looking to get from the traditional dancers! IT IS A TRADITIONAL FAMOUS FOLK DANCE SONG OF GOA! OBVIOUSLY, ALL GOANS ARE NOT LAVANI DANCERS AND WON'T LOOK LIKE THEM!

There are alot of pathos in songs. The story behind this song is really horrible not only for Hindu but also for humanity .they requesting to boat man for taking him across the river for preserving hindu religion. Fevering Every bangle, gold to get rid from Portuguese region. Goa inquestion is the most horrible event in the history of IndiA

I don't think you understand Konkani because you have completely misinterpreted the song. Its a Konkanni folksongs, where the lady ( a Tamasgir) wants to cross the river to dance at Damu's wedding. The boatman is refusing to cross the river because its dark and windy and hence dangerous. She offers him her bangles, etc and even tries to lure him by doing the dekni (dance).

I wonder whats the real meaning of this song? its lost in times As it was sung during the inquisition times and the boats man used to refuse to cross them the mandovi out of fear of Portuguese.

There is real story behind this song. Portugues not allowing Hindus to get marry so they have to cross river and they have to go Ponda side to get marry. Then this song is sung.

ARREY BABA, DO YOU UNDERSTAND GOAN KONKANI? Do you know what they sang in Konkani? They are telling we are Kalavat and we are invited to perform our dance in Damu's marriage. But, we don't know the way to reach there. Would you please show us the way. Historically, lavani performers belonged majorly to the Bhatu, Kalwat, Kolhati, Mahar, Matangi and Dombari castes, and they are recognised as Dalit in the state of Maharashtra. So, it is natural that they will look like Lavani Dancers. Isn't it? You don't understand Goan Konkani and so you didn't understand meaning of what they are saying. They are telling the Hodiwala (one who is running the boat service) to take them across the river where they are supposed to do their Lavani type performance in Damu's wedding.
