What an adorable video. The piglets even look like they are smiling as they sleep:-)

Hello! Please help! I have two big concerns right now that we would absolutely love to get your help with. We have recently adopted a 3 month old male neutered pot bellied pig. We’ve only had him for a few days now. Our family room that is 20x30ft is under construction and will be finished this spring. We wish to keep the piggie in that room. Will an indoor pen that’s about 6 foot x 20 foot be big enough to keep him in for most of the time? One of my dogs has become aggressive towards my pig and I’m worried about having my pig free roaming the house. The future pen will be made with vertical wooden ballasts and located where my dogs, rabbits, cat, and myself included, will spend most, if not the entire day. He will have full view of us but I will ensure he has “shelter” and a crate with tons of bedding to give him a place to hide if he wishes. Currently he’s temporarily in a smaller sized wooden pen that is about 3 ft by 10ft that has seemingly worked out really well for litter box training. Our piggie gets visits and love throughout the day. Just the right amount to allow him to learn “alone time” as well. When the construction is complete, in addition to his indoor pen, he will have frequent access to the 1.5 acre yard frequently via a ramp. Currently we only have large flights of stairs that would be dangerous for him to descend. Please let me know if the pen setup in the great room is sufficient for his health and well being. This is the best way for me to feel confident about having all the animals safe in the house. I would hate to have to rehome him if free roaming him in and around our living space is the only way to keep a pig happy. My second question is about his constant “talking”. I read that proactive vs reactive pigs are more likely to perform these rhythmic grunts. Could this constant grunting be a “settling in” behaviour as he becomes familiar with his new environment or have you had some pigs that just don’t stop talking? It is a low, medium volumed, intermittent, rhythmic grunt. I only ask because it can sometimes feel a bit unsettling to hear it all the time. I’ve learned his other grunts such as a loud, rapid grunt for food, and a deeper longer stretched out grunt for bathroom breaks. I’ve learned his happy grunts, squeals and even the ones that sound like laughing when he’s getting belly rubs and pats. Very cute indeed. Two sounds I am unsure about is his occasional low quiet grunt almost under his breath so to speak (which seem to me like contentment) and on very rare occasions, he pauses with no sound at all for a few seconds, as if he were thinking or processing info about something. He sometimes wags his tail which I’m hoping to see more of as time goes by and he gets to know us better. I apologize for such a long message, but I’m desperately trying to seek answers from an experienced and reliable person like yourself. I have watched almost every single one of your videos on KZitem and appreciate the time you take to teach new owners about pigs. You have provided such helpful tools and tips and put my mind to ease about all sorts of piggie troubleshooting. In my opinion, you have made THE MOST useful, practical, and honest videos on KZitem about pig care. I don’t know what I would have done without you on the first few days of having our new sweet pig. It’s been quite the rollercoaster ride. Thank you so very much!

Thank you so much! I truly appreciate that!! 1. That set up sounds great! 2. Some pigs are very vocal and talk continually. I need a few more details to be able to figure out what is going on. I would love to do a consultation. Email me at autumnacresminipetpigs@gmail.com if you would like to.
