Excellent review. Based on all of your weddings in 2 months I would say you are an expert on these units. I have the MLS 800 for a couple years and i agree with your comments. These are great systems for the price. Ive received many compliments on the sound especially when I turn up the sub on the dance floor.

Great video! So would you recommend this for a solo singer songwriter for bars and outdoor patios? Typically the crowds are not large and usually drinking and not sitting in front watching me play. Thanks in advance

If I'm not mistaken, I think that was actually the initial intention with these speakers. More for live performers than DJs, but it works across the Spectrum.

I have had EVERY Bose system since they came out from the Bose L1 Classic to their huge systems. That said, I used two Bose L1 Compacts for my solo show...I have for YEARS. I run a number of instruments from my board into the compacts...That said, after hearing the Harbinger MLS900s at GC I bought one...used it for a Facebook Live show and it was incredible! There are many differences that actually are better than Bose. The first of which is that you can adjust the treble and bass from the unit. My highs were clearer and the bottom is far better than the Bose system! That is a pretty stout statement for me because I have actually helped other bands set up their Bose systems...I feel like a traitor! LOL! You only need one MLS900 for what you describe. You can run a mic and your guitar...adjust the sound and you’re good to go. Also, it is Bluetooth so you can run your phone through it on breaks (or play along with backing tracks). Hope this helps. Good luck with your shows...summer is coming so we’ll be able to perform outdoors!

Hey man love the video! Very informative. I'm considering buying a pair of these and eventually getting a subwoofer to make up for the towers lack of low end. Do you have to use a seperate mixer when using a subwoofer with two paired units? Thanks again

Good review. I’ve learned companies greatly exaggerate wattage. I look for SPL. They probably exaggerate that too
@gak0090
4 жыл бұрын
The wattage is rated at 900 watts peak, although the company admits 240 watts rms & that goes to both the 8" woofer & the array. It's not 2 separate power amps. Although the system sounds good if you don't need the power. Better than the JBL EON at the same volume.

Can you use this speaker without the bottom column of speakers? In other words, can the top column be connected directly to the sub?
@djtravismcguire

No. The middle piece has to be used.

Great videos! I subscribed! I use the American Audio STK-106W portable line array and I like it for some of the same reasons you like this system. I contemplated getting the 800 model last season but opted for the AA system. I’ve been pleased!

What do you think of adding a sub to these type of systems? I was thinking of adding a 15 or 18 to the ev 50's.

I've used an 18" sub on many occasions. Hid it behind the facade. It sounds really good too.

RCA or xlr to 1/8 inch. 1/8 inch goes into your laptop. Or you can Bluetooth if your computer has that function.

I went to GC and compared the JBL EON One to the Harbinger MLS900. They had a sale going the JBL EON was $720 and the Harbinger was $400. I compared then side by side. I know Harbinger is a budget name, but at the same volume the Harbinger was much warmer and fuller sound- I was completely shocked that I preferred the Harbinger to the JBL EON that was almost twice the price. It's like the JBL was missing the mid, mid-highs and the dispersion was better on the Harbinger. Having said that the JBL EON has way higher output power at 380 watts (true rating) vs 240 watts rms & that goes to both the 8" woofer & the array for the Harbinger (don't be fooled by the 900 watt peak). Considering the cost though, if you needed the extra power, and didn't mind lugging around extra equipment, I would purchase 2 of the Harbinger MLS 900 instead of the JBL EON One. My personal use for this is for my daughter who sings and plays keys, so the Harbinger I think is a much better fit, If you're a DJ and need bass ,sizzle and high output, the JBL EON might work better for you.

Is the middle speaker supposed to produce sound or does it just "look" like a speaker? I just bought one and there is sound coming out from the top speaker and the sub but not the middle. Is that supposed to be that way? Someone help me.
@djtravismcguire

The middle piece is just wiring on the inside. The speakers are placed at the top. Honestly, where they should be. If the drivers are any lower, the sound they produce won't go very far.

Would 2 of these paired with a 18 in EKX SUB WOULD SOUND CLOSE TO THE EVOLVE 50 ?
@djtravismcguire
5 жыл бұрын
It would be close. Even topping out the high end off of these you're looking at a max spl of 121db. Evolve 50's top out at 129db.

The system doesn't have phantom power to power mics. Fyi. I haven't heard a line array like these styles even the bose I'm not impressed with them yet they cant hang with a 15 mid range speaker horn top cab with sub. Just my thoughts tho

Great video. Well explained. Thank you. I'm looking to "split size" my PA for live acoustic/percussion performances. I'm going to upsize for outdoor/larger gigs and not use two JBL Eon Ones. Just not enough power. This helps. I think I'll keep a JBL Eon One for smaller shows instead of getting the Harbinger. ;)

I used them for a year and a half and sold them. They are not too bad for the price, especially if you are not sure about dipping into the column array world, but they are what they are. A beginner column array system. I am much happier with my Maui 28 G2's.
