I watched several videos on this press before I bought mine. I too never knew there were two different models. Evidently the 60604 is an upgraded version over the other unit. I'm glad I had watched these videos beforehand. I told the salesperson directly that I wanted the unit with sku 60604 or else I wouldn't buy it. I got the one I wanted. Also, the earlier model comes in three separate boxes, the later model only two.

Hey great video. Great info. I just bought the 20 ton press today for cam chain tensioners on a twin cam. 20 ton is probably way more than I will ever need but got it for clearance price of 199.99. Thanks for the video. I'm going to check out some of your other vids. I have a 2004 Springer Softail. Thanks again

I just got one. It looks like the one on the left #70604. But on line it shows the one on the right. A little disappointed how the jack kind of rattles around, so I put tension on the springs. The 20t press next to it in the store looked just like the one on the right but is bigger. I mainly bought it to replace the ball joints on my classic beetle. I have a regular ball joint press tool, but didn't think it would work to well on this job. But since I am a member I did get it for $34 off!

They all come in a single box now. I took the first one back as it had the channel top. The next one had the I beam top. I kept that one. The first box had plastic straps holding it together. The second one with the I beam top was taped together. Both had the same SKU numbers.

They seem to change sku's all the time. For me it was the bottle jack being welded to the plate rather than just sitting on it.

I have the 60603 model and it's slightly different from both of those that you have there. It has the top part of 497 model and the rest is from the 604 model. The springs are attached to welded in rods on the top part similar to the 497 and the pump is screwed onto a plate with allen bolts similar to the 604. The legs have 7 holes and the little a frame supports and it's as wide as the 604, it also has the lock in handle with the grip. I've only used it for small jobs, most recent was swapping out the input shaft onto a newer foward drum for a 4 speed auto. Seems sturdy enough for small jobs in the garage.

One day I got lucky and called the South Austin location and they had just got in a few of them. I asked them to hold one for me and that I would be on my way to get it, got it within the hour.

The 60604 is the newest upgraded model. They are made by different manufacturers. The frame is made by different factorys and thats why there are different sizes. If you have the older one you can drill two holes in the bottle jack and frame to keep it solid. The spring screw hook needs to be tightened to keep tension so it doesn't allow slop. Add 1/8" hot rolled steel angle iorn or C channel steel to the frame to strengthen it. A box frame plate to bottom to give more strength to legs and allow you to add several wheels to roll it out and away when needed. You can even add a $20 wench and 2 pulleys on top to bring up and lower base beam without having to hold the heavy beam when changing pins to different slots. All of these mods cost under $60

They do that with different sku model numbers. I just found out a few days ago with my new 20t press. Was looking at 60603, received 32879. Went back and asked specifically about the other sku and they had none but 4 more of mine. Pretty much means I will do some of my own mods to get what I want. Kind of frustrating but not a deal breaker. Anyway, check the publishing/copyright date on the front of the manual. The 32879 was 2009 and the 60603 was 2012 when they improved some features and was released. I wouldn't be surprised if HF has a contract with the factories to produce them for X amount of years is why they have variants of the same product. Probably cheaper to have someone else produce changes than to have factory A change their tooling, packaging, etc. Also wouldn't be surprised if they did the changes based off feedback/KZitem for what consumers were modifying. It is more of a pain on the consumer side though, especially when you see a picture and get something different.

They didn't have they one model I had to go to another HF to get the model I wanted. The store you went to should have checked to see what stores carried the model you wanted if they were out of stock.

Annoyingly they updated the SKU for the one on the left. They're now calling it the 70604. I even asked before buying about the discrepancy between the floor model and the photo in their inventory system and online and they assured me that what was shown on the inventory photo was what would actually be in the box. Well, guess what was in the box. 33497, but labeled 70604. Comes in a single box now, but it's still the 33497.

It looks like the beefy one is close to the 20 ton in the build quality . That cheap little one looks like junk . and with all the money they saved making that thing with inferior materials they could have welded on a jack retainer plate . Didn't Central give these contractors a material construction list ?... Jeeez what a difference . I just bought the 20 ton a couple weeks ago and love it as you most likely will the beefy one you have there . :)

Try going back to the store and see if the model number you have matches the store display. Look at the tags that you bring to the register to see if there are a couple different models. You might have to go to a different HF store. I had to go to two stores, each one had a different model on display.

This is the main problem when buying stuff from Harbor Freight and China in general and I am talking from a different industry as well. Former company tried sourcing a product out in China, first round was great. Second round, garbage. Harbor Freight is much the same. They build good rounds of things and reviews could be based on them vs what you actually got. They try to make things cheaper all the time and skimping on materials is their way. The difference between those presses is insane. Thinner I-beam at the top alone.

Unless you know how their tags work you might not be aware of two different items .when they have one model on The floor and you grab tag you would think that was the model you were getting. The tags don't have like "SKU" or "model" on the tags . So unless you were aware there was different models on the same tag you wouldn't be The wiser.

"Central Machinery" isn't the manufacturer - that is just another Harbor Freight house-brand, like Bauer. Harbor freight contracts with different factories/manufacturers that they have manufacture their products. It is certainly annoying and misleading when they sell different versions as the same product, though.
