Most things break if you use them wrong. Use the right tool for the job. Most woodworkers have a number of different types of clamps to choose from. These are not C clamps or pipe clamps or a vise. They are for light clamping for example holding two wood pieces together to glue. They only cost $3 each and have a lifetime warranty. I'm happy with my HF clamps. They have served me well.

I have seen two ways to kinda fix these. Open the handle cover and bend the rear metal tab so it will take a deeper bite. The other way that can help is to get rough sand paper and sand the top and bottom of the rail. It helps it grab a little better.

I bought some recently. I got the really small ones to glue the top on my fiddle. They suck. One of them wouldn't even stay on. I'd squeeze, but as soon as I let go of it, it loosened up and fell off. It was totally useless. The others were barely sufficient to do the glue up.

I've have these exact same clamps for about a year now and they've been very good for me. I have other higher quality clamps too but I feel like they all operate the same. These actually work better than the Dewalt ones I bought around the same time.

Great review. I'll prob never buy HF clamps ever, would rather get something that last and works. I actually designed some bar clamps. Got some videos on my channel, would love to get your feedback on them. I'm calling them the Wingman Clamps. - Cay

I bought two of these. Both of them had weak clamping power and one of them snapped on the top after my third time using them. I do like their bar clamps, though.

The handle is held in place by a small steel shaft that is mounted between two moulded plastic rims that just aren't strong enough to take the strain. Sooner or later, that shaft will snap out of the plastic and the clamp is ruined forever. Unscrew the body, remove the tiny steel shaft the handle pivots on, drill a hole thru both plastic body parts and replace the steel shaft thingy with a bolt & nut. Hard to describe but simple to do.
