Thanks for posting this. I had a machine shop build me 2 of these so I didn'have to wait 2 months for Harbor Freight to get them in. I was charged 45.00 each and they will build them for 45.00 each plus shipping. Thanks again for all your help.

Could it have been drilled straight thru the center (or to a depth behind the bushing), then thru hole drilled behind the bushings so a grease fitting could have been put on the end cap and grease pumped into pin behind the bearings?

goneredcar1: Great job sir, on fabricating a new pivot pin for your HFT trencher. Our unit has the same issue as yours (did). We are now trying to remove the pin - it's somewhat stuck. Thank you for showing these steps to the fix. Have you had a chance to pull your new pin & check to see how well the grease was able to penetrate to your improved design upper & lower bushings ?

Great job here, sir. Have you had any issues with the "Other" pivot pin that is highly stressed, on the lower ram that pushes the boom side to side ? Ours suffered from lack of lube per the prior owner. Lots of play in the frame material vs the pin. We added bronze bushings - thrust washers to tighen the joint considerably. Holds more grease for longer now. I guess we just have to fix all the weak spots !!!

You've done a great job on this trencher you have really went the extra mile to keep it going there's been a lot of improvision on your part and a hell of a lot of ingenuity and you have done a first-class job all the way however I would like to ask you this,,,, if you had to do it over again knowing what you know now would you still by the Harbor Freight Trencher or would you have bought the DR trencher instead???

Is there a chance that you could show greasing this pin in a video?

The best way to grease is drill the holes and apply grease with the pin greaser, tthen install back in the machine. You only need one hole per side and grease around the outside of the pin. I just inspected the pin after a year and it still is llike new.

The zurks only greases the outer portion of the pin not the inter part where the heavy wear occurs

Would you ever make one for some one else I don't have any of the machines to make one and a machine shop wood proubly cost to much and not make it as goodas you what do you think one wood cost?

I don't have a problem making one for someone but I'm not sure if the Chinese use the same sizes all the time. That would be the only problem that I can foresee, and the other would be in the design itself. The other way to build it would be from one piece of steel turned down with two bushings not sure if this would be all that better. The number one problem with this is a lack of grease getting between the bushings and the pin. The grease fittings that are provided only get grease to the outside of the bushing surface and with the pin having been welded together. This makes it almost impossible to service even if you remove the pin assembly from the machine. The best fix is to drill the holes now before the pin fails and service it by greasing it every so many hours. That I would be glad to do for you free before you need to have a new one made. All you need is pre paid shipping and it will be drilled and returned within a day. That's the better and way cheaper option.

You could probably go in business just overhauling these units people buy them brand new bring them to you and pay you to do all the upgrades that you've done you'd be a millionaire at the end of the year
