Phoebe the “Nail problem” is real! BTW for what it’s worth, I think your Phone mic sounds way better than the other one!

Something I found that works, is to wear a banjo pick backwards. That is what I did when I tried some clawhammer myself. I did that to keep my knuckles from scrapping the banjo strings.

I was tuning up a mandolin to take to session tonight. With a short break to find the tune in C and remember how to play a mando I was able to play along.with. Thanks for the fun pre session gig.

as a ukulele player I often wear down my main strumming nail (right hand, index finger), and I’ve discovered that having an acrylic nail on that finger eases the problem. it’s not a panacea, but if you keep up with it, it helps a lot. really enjoy your videos. keep up the good work.

Dr. Phoebe! Once again, your dose of banjo is just what I need at the end of a long, long day! Great rendition of a great song. I always remember Emmylou Harris doing this one with her Nash Ramblers. I saw them in concert in the early 90's. Great show! I will be praying that you do well on your finals. Keep being yourself, and I will keep tuning in! Love you bunches! ♥♥♥♥♥

Very nice! Fun little story; I first found this song when over in the US for one of your ACW reenactments. It was a doozy and incredible as they're on a huge scale compared to our little old society. We sung this round the campfire and it was a very nice time. Dont do that now, I'm with a RCDT and the 101st lhs. Just got back from Normandy but still enjoy humming this ditty. This is a super rendition :) thanks for sharing this ❤

You can go to the nail salon and get the few nails you need to get you thru the season. Have them do them extra thick. There is some finger nail guard like, lite pics out there too if you plan on shredding but not getting your nails done.

Phoebe, your playing really inspired me to get a banjo to begin to learn clawhammer. I'm struggling with getting the "strike" motion correctly. I've watched so many videos that my head is spinning. Could you possibly show how you do it? I'm worried I have too much wrist motion, when it's supposed to be all from the arm, like knocking a door, etc. Love your playing! Thank you so much for bringing the joy of this instrument and playing style to the internet.
