This video is a quick ride along in the hardtuned Ford Cortina GT. Powered by Honda's F20C engine and 6-speed transmission, it makes for a nicely balanced combination.
Absolutely loved the look on the dog’s face. Ears flat back………..

I owned one back in the 80’s. My second car. Absolutely loved that car to the max. Bodywork was rough. Cars suffered terribly with corrosion back in the day. I loved the remote gear change and the cabinet between the two front seats. But we always remember the good times, don’t we. Not like when it broke down. Cars were a joy to work on, back then.

That Mk1 brings back so many great memories of my buddies first car he bought in the mid 70s. As teenagers it was so much fun to learn to drive in, especially after an inch or 2 of fresh snow in the very north of England in Cumbria. He usually clipped a deep kerb of 2 so cost him more than one rim LoL He wanted to become a rally driver and his dream and wish actually came true a few years later racing a Mk2 Escort for the ford dealership he worked for. He would frighten the crap outta me flying (literally) through the trees on gravel forest tracks.........i think he used to take his brains out and put them in a plastic bag in the toilet bowl, before we went for a drive without fear, on his part LoL. Your Mk1 is way way Fun, well done, my buddies had so many rattles LoL My father had a Mk2 Cotina GT his pride and joy for 10 years (4 dials on top of the dash in center, untill i bounced of a hedge row 3 times, in the dark on a joy ride unknown to him. I rolled it and ended up doing donuts on the roof, i had to rebuild that car with my cash as a 16 yr old, lucky my buddy worked for the ford dealership and he was in the car with me, both lived on to tell the tale :)) Boys will be boys.......

Wow, that's exceptionally cool. (I own an S2000 and a Focus ST, and had a Zetec Focus - so I do understand why you went with the F20C.) I sat in the front room of my grandma's house in Manchester as a youngster watching traffic go by in the 1960's - Mk.1 Cortina - almost invariably with a Lotus-style paint scheme, were my favorites. I also loved the laugh at the very end of the video.

@@russcooke5671 Got it back together and ready for the wedding 8.30pm the night before. Bonnet wasn't finished as I had some issues with it. I've finished the bonnet and he's been driving it everywhere since. 🙂 I do still need to de nib and take out a few runs and buff. Interior is coming back together with new rubbers etc. The owner enjoys it every day driving to work etc. Here's a clip while at wedding photos.. kzitem.info/news/bejne/sWp_sJ9or2qEkpw

Beautiful, back in the day we resorted to the awful Essex V6 to get more power. The Honda engine would have been far better and not ruined the handling. Nice job!

I owned two of these and you lost me with the Honda engine and the digital dash. Cortina's are nothing without a Kent engine and original interior for me.

Yes, but this one is not yours. The “Royal Me” would have preferred the Ford Cosworth from the early 2000’s.

I don’t understand why you just wouldn’t put a late model Ford engine in it. And fanging around with just a lap belt on and the shoulder straps dangling? And after putting that running gear in it retaining the original skinny big old steering wheel? And RHD in the States? Makes as much sense as LHD in Australia.....Still, it’s better than a Chev engine in a Ford. I’m sure it’s a Good Thing, and well engineered......

So let me get this straight you pulled out a hand built hand tuned lotus engine and put in a S2000 modern Honda engine in it? Please tell me you bought it with no engine in it tell me anything but you just wanted to swap them out? It would take a total moron to do that swap I’m sorry but it’s true
@g0fvt

It is not a Lotus it is a GT so would have had a pre crossflow when built. 20 years ago this car had a Fiat engine. The Honda engine is definitely better than some of the older options.

It's a GT so it never had a Lotus twitcam. The car had been swapped to a Fiat twincam with a Fiat 5 speed gearbox sometime in the 1980's before my time. I put 90k miles on that combo before I did the conversion to Honda power. Cheers!
