We do a lot of engineered glue down floors here in Raleigh- but almost all are prefinished. Love the site finishing and re-finishing ability! Great Video

Well that was 100% useless. I wanted to know how the install was done, what prep and moisture barriers were used, what glue was used, what techniques were used. Instead. all I got was to use a swifter.

I am an old timer. I only use sight installed, sanded and finished floors. The finish on pre-finished floors never holds up as advertised and repairing them is next to impossible. Now if I could just get the quality of my project videos up to this level :)

Great video! what type of glue do you use to fix the engineered board to the slab and do you treat / prime the slab with anything first? Thanks Matt.

I also am searching for installation expertise. What kind of vapor barriers do you use, what type of glue do you use, do you use any mechanical fasteners,do you glue clamp and let dry, how much room do you allow for expansion, what are acceptable moisture levels. Not rocket science, proper, approved,construction methods.

I saw a video that said gluing hardwood to concrete and in the video he was gluing hardwood on tile that was on top of concrete. The number of content creators that give you bad information in their video title is equal to the population of India.

Re moisture in a grade slab. Dpm under slab and Bona do a moisture and vapour barrier seal or glue for gluing down.

Hi Matt, we use pine flooring in Mississippi where I build, but I don't really care care for it because of how soft it is. Where can I get the pecan wood engineered floor that you show in this video. Thanks.

Great videos Matt. Appreciate the info. I referred you to a buddy in Austin on Lake Austin who might be developing a property. Do you think the glue down on concrete is ok w/ a solid wood floor such as reclaimed heart pine? Or just engineered?

On a concrete slab, given it gets very cold in the winter, would you recommend a floating floor on top of a 3mm rubber underlayment? I am considering that myself given I am hesitant to glue the engineered hardwood directly to the concrete.

What should I use in my basement it has flooded 3 times in 30 years and 2 times since we owned it last 5 years. Both time we had to rip out the carpet. It is a large basement over 2,500 sq ft. I notice that the three tile areas seem unaffected by the flooding but would doing tile cause more damage to the drywall if it flooded again? What is the best flooring for a basement? Should I do for flooring? I think we have figured out what is the issue is and we are taking preventative measures back up sump pump with WiFi, generator, diverting water with an awning over back porch drain, and water leak sensors.

Can i glue 3/4" thick and about 3.5" wide solid hardwood with kerfed backing to concrete slab? Its 3 different size lenghts. Ive glued down several engineered 1/2" thick hardwoods that are wider planks but never a solid hardwood. My concern is moisture, proper bonding with the kerfed underside and unevenness of the slab, and also the holding power of the joints not opening up from expansion/contraction.

2:55 You screen it. I thought screening was sanding too. So I guess the difference is you just sand to reapply a new layer on top of the old one? How often can you do that before you need to sand it down to the wood?

How do you fix gaps and squeak in this type of installation? The boards don't slide or easily be removed as they are glued down. Thanks for your advice.

Hi Matt, Thanks for sharing all your great videos. I would be concerned about gluing directly to a slab on grade unless I was sure I had a complete vapor barrier. When it's humid outside and you turn on the A/C inside, you will be lowering the humidity inside and drawing the outside humidity inward (not just through the walls but up through the slab). What are you using as a vapor barrier below the slab?
@2awesome292

Looks beautiful. I've had a number of engineered and finished in place floors installed. I can't think of a reason not to use engineered floors. If there are concerns about refinishing you can always spec a thicker wear layer.

that sadly was not a very useful post. Outside of if you have a nail down floor.. sounds like one just needs to glue down a one and !/4 advantech underlayment right on top of the cement. For that heck mastic and stone slates sure sounds like a better way to go so have high mass to absorb heat for passive house requirements. Engineered lumber is a great product I know that it has its place in your market

Please Matt....if I hear again what it is you do regarding construction “here in Texas”...I’m gonna just lose it. You are reaching a whole bunch of people that are very lucky they DON’T live in the state of Texas. We don’t care what building practices that are done in Texas because we don’t live there. I live in Williamsburg Virginia...would you really care if I told you over and over again how “we do it in Virginia” Hell, I lived two years in west Texas...hated it...no trees... flat...the heat wasn’t so bad because there was no humidity. I enjoyed the nice breeze. Anyway...I like your show. It’s very educational. But please cool it with referring to building methods that are used in Texas ad nauseam. I bet you can’t go thru five minutes of your show without mentioning the fact that you are from Texas and this is how they build in Texas...bla...bla...bla...
