#59 from the Hymnal 1982. Opening Hymn on the Third Sunday of Advent at St. Bartholomew's, an Episcopal church in New York City on December 11, 2011.
Words: Latin ca. 6th century "Vox clara ecce intonat"
Tune: 'Merton', William Henry Monk, 19th century; descant Alan Gray, 20th century
On the last line of the descant, you can hear a strange harmony that is belted out of nowhere. There were people moving around behind me, but I don't recall hearing anyone singing like that. Sorry if it ruins the recording - it kind of does for me. I suggest you look up St. John's Episcopal church in Detroit for their beautiful version.
