I really appreciate this review because I am thinking of buying one, but I wish someone would just plug in with the cleanest sound possible and play full chords in 5 positions letting them ring as long as possible, then simply play through the chromatic scale on every fret, every string looking for dead spots and noting difference in volume and tone per position. Play an F on the first string, F on the second, same F on the 3rd,4th, 5th noting difference in tone, volume and intonation, Check intonation at 12th fret and every octave. Then play a bit of music to judge it's playability regarding fret height and neck shape. Running through distortion is no way to judge the quality of a guitar. That is purely subjective.

I do not think you can buy a better Les Paul style guitar anywhere, in this price range, Mine goes out of tune, and will replace the goofy tuners, and install strap locks, that's it, ready to gig, period. Cool demo song. You're getting some really nice classic guitar tones out of your rig, sounds great. I've been watching some Harley Benton reviews and it seems like they've really nailed the quality/inexpensive guitar (I'm partial to the Fusion). I've never personally played a Harley Benton, but they look to be killing it.

I bought the SC550 II - Grey Burst. I agree that the Tuners are ugly as you pointed out and I noticed that they stick to far out so they hit the side of the guitar case that I bought (Gator) so I replaced them Grover 18:1 Rotomatics and the old screw holes are not visible at all. I also replaced the graphite Nut with a bone nut. I am very pleased with the sound of the Tesla pickups. Frets were dressed and polished nicely already, but I did need to have setup done on it because the intonation was very bad, but that may have been due to shipping to California. I am very happy with this guitar and its become my main player, making me set aside my LP Custom, I think just because of the weight difference alone has made it more enjoyable to play at rehearsal and live.

@@bramdriessens5942 new holes were drilled to accommodate the new tuners. Also, I had slightly lied about not seeing the old holes, and I did that because I didn’t see them, then I looked super close and can see the edges of them sticking out under the new tuners. My tech guy had used a black marker in the holes so they seamlessly blend into the black paint of the head stock (on the grey burst) so you don’t notice the old holes at all unless your up super close.

Hi from Spain, I enjoyed your presentation and agree with virtually all your comments. I received my SC550ii PAF about 4 weeks ago and it unfortunately arrived unplayable. The graphite nut is not the right size,(colour for me is not an issue) is really badly fitted and set really high. The height of the strings at the first fret makes it impossible to even play simple chords without intonation problems. I contacted Thomann who simply said return it, they had no interest in the problem I had, their quality control is poor. I don't want to return the guitar because I can get it fixed but right now it is in the hard case I bought with it unplayable. On the positive side the "Tesla" pick ups are great, the frets perfect and the overall finish very good. The tuners I am not sure about because of the problem with the graphite nut. I don't understand how Thomann can allow a guitar to leave their premises unplayable because of an obvious simple problem with the graphite nut, Kind regards, John.

Sorry for you man ! Unfortunately, QC is never perfect, even for more prestigious brands (I've had an even worse problem with a LTD EC 1000). What Thomann once told me is the functionnal QC is made in the factory (for indonesian models only) and when the guitar arrives in Germany, there only is a visual control. You've also got to know that their mergins on Harley Benton guitars are very low, between 7 and 10% so they don't repair the guitars, they replace them. Hope you will be able to solve the problem and have fun with this axe :)

Edit: to me the SC550 II sounds more bright and metallic than the SC Custom II (the SC Custom II sounds warmer and a bit darker) - not just because of the pickups but construction wise & choice of tone woods. I hear a big difference "unplugged". I didn't expect that.

Hi Maggie ! I'm not late : you are ahead :) Marco gave the solution for the tuners and I have totally forgot about those Graphtech Ratio Tuners, but yeah, that's what U need. I'm surprised that you find the 550 II brighter than the Custom, but with Harley Bentons and considering how different the wood can be from one guitar to another, well, it's not that strange. Stainless steel frets also add brightness to the sound when played unplugged !

According to my own experience, the SC-550 II is way better than the SC Custom II. The Custom I have reviewed was very disappointing. I'm a bass player in a CCM band. I like to play six stringers at home and occasionally as a backup in the band. The SC-550 ii looks nice from all reviews. Is the price difference of a Sire L7 or Vintage v100 worth it. One of my basses is a Sire V7 and it's a great bass even if it cost twice the actual price.
@ToroKchannel
2 жыл бұрын
The main differences between SC-550 II and Sire L7 are about the finish. Not bad on the Benton, they are very impressive on the Sire with a beautiful top and this super comfortable satin neck. Now, for playing metal, I think the Tesla pickups on the Benton are better than the Tesla, but for you, and if I understand CCM correctly (Contemporary Christian Music ?) well, really I don't know ! The tesla sound modern, a bit heavy and the mids are on the low side. The Sire pickups are a lot brighter, more Fenderish and have less output. Hope this will help you decide !
