How could anyone say any of this is anti-climatic. The geography of peru and bolivia is absolutely insane. From full sand desert for miles, to tropical areas, to mountains with mile high sheer cliffs. This trip would have been absolutely amazing. Hope your back isn't messed up permanently. It would be a shame to not be able to do what you love anymore.

In the USA you go to the hospital wait 2 or 3 hours to be seen, they charge you $1000 plus, then take you to a room to wait another hour to 3 hours, then take x-rays, give you Tylenol, and tell you to see your primary doctor to see a specialist. Takes weeks if not a few months to get just what you did in No Time At All. That is Real EXCELLENT Service you got! Danny, I thought you were definitely going to run out of gas in the mountains on the way to the hotel. Yikes!

A journalist wrote an update to "Zen and the art of Motorcycle Maintenance " in which he found a couple of H-D riders. There was no oil under the bikes and had no issues to report during ownership. Adjusting valves and making shims from beer cans is far and gone. I too am amazed at what vehicles can do in rough conditions. BMW had quite a good belt guard design, but I think I'd still carry a "link" and spare like I know a H-D rider did in Africa.

I was thinking about Danny's last vid where he went down a steep dirt road that became narrow and that he had to pull the bike around on its side to turn it around. And I thought he sure could have used a reverse gear for his Transmission. Baker makes such a gear for Harley transmissions. It gives the ability for a Harley rider to back up a steep incline like Danny was struggling with.

Good for you mate. You should get out there on what you have. I have been in South America but on a DR650. Back and spinal problem is common between forward control motorcycle riders. All your weight is on your spine and no way to deal with bumps on the road by standing on pegs or a bit of lift from the seat. Not to mention Harley doesn't have that much of a suspension. I guess you don't wear the same sandals you wear on the beach when you go mountain climbing. That's pretty brave taking a road king there. Again, good for you.....

I'm glad your alright, back issues is good trust me on that one half my body is titanium from 3 inches above my knees up to half my back is plates screws, rods. When I was in the military I fell 60 ft out of a helicopter in 82 f*cked me all up but I understand how working hard to be able to keep riding but took 10 years of therapy and dingy military doctors. I'm 64 and I'm looking for another Harley might have to get a trike or something. I'll be praying for you. Fantastic scenery as always. GOD bless you Danny
