As someone who spent the last 2.5 years working on this bike. Hearing it called a home run is a great feeling. We put a lot of blood sweat and tears into the Pan Am. So happy for the world to finally see what we spent so much time laboring over!

I think on paper it looks great. The marketing guys almost blew it with me about “we’ve always been the leader” bs and that worries me because it’s the same old philosophy about heritage. I’d really like them to come out trying for the younger crowd by advertising that it’s time for a change. Thanks for commenting.

Not sure if people know, but HD is losing money. In 2018 many investors pulled out since they no longer saw HD as profitable. In 2019 the value of their stock dropped by I believe 24%. HD are now building an ADV, naked sports and an electric motorcycle. HD is only trying to branch out in other categories now due to desperation. They need to make the money or they're out the door. The biggest market in motorcycles are naked sports and the fastest growing are ADVs. Its no mystery why HD is trying to jump on the wagon. They desperately need to turn a profit. I guess we just need to see how these bikes perform and stack up to the competition that have been at it for decades already. I love the look of this ADV, but I hope it's performance is just as good.

Harley-Davidson confessions: I am not a fan of Harley-Davidson and openly hoped for their failure in the past due to their arrogance, the arrogance of their sales staff, gouging of extras, refusal to acknowledge technology and the way they have treated their loyal customers in the past. But, in reality I guess I really don't want them to fail I just want them to suffer and be humbled! We need all of the American manufacturers that we can. So I hope the Pan-American is a "moderate" success because if it fails I think it could be the death spiral for Harley-Davidson but if it's a moderate success they will remain alive without being too arrogant hopefully. Pan American looks: I was originally of the group that thought this bike was ugly as Sin and thought that white bread box on the front of it was horrible and about the worst part of the looks. Since then I have seen a few reviewers who thought the white and orange color combination was their very favorite. So I will have to concede that it is just my personal taste and after looking at it in other color combinations it's not so bad I just hate the orange and white. The new Buell adventure bike looks to be similar as far as being block ish or Lego ish as some people say. I now look at both of them with the image of being olive drab and being more like a two wheeled all terrain Jeep then a sporty adventure bike. More like a military Workhorse motorcycle if you will. And with that image I think it's kind of cool looking and taking a slightly New Direction of Adventure bikes. All in all looks don't really mean much in the adventure bike Market it's all about function. Look at the KTM that thing is horrible looking but people love them. Technology and specs: I have to admit that these specs are not awe inspiring but they are decent and if they deliver what they say it should be a good bike. And last but not least I hate how they are advertising it as the first American adventure bike ( just more Harley arrogance and BS) when they know full well the Buell Ulysses was marketed as an adventure bike and anyone that doubts that could go look up the old advertisements.

I’m with you with the arrogance of HD. The promo vid I had to sit through to make this video and get some footage was pure torture. They made it sound like they were always innovators when in reality they have been the opposite, especially lately. Even the live wire was made by their employees without their support or consent. I was pretty rosy and positive in this preview as I think Harley might just be saved by this bike, but truthfully I feel more like you do about them being able to barely compete and keep up. Let’s hope they get rid of their arrogance in the future. Thanks for your comments.

There are a few reasons. 1 weight. 2 cost. And 3 handling. However 1 and 3 are almost not reasons at all as you would never feel that weight, and you get used to the way shaft drives handle under acceleration. Thanks for the question.

Something you need, is the ability to change gear ratios. A lot of bikes have way, way, way way, way too short of 6th gear final drive ratio. They want bikes to do good in reviews, so they make the stock gearing way too low. I personally hate driving most stock motorcycles, because the engine has screaming high RPM's at 75mph. With chain drive, there's almost no limit to how much you can change the final drive gear ratio. It's a huge advantage if you're doing off road only riding, or long distance high speed touring.

I have a newbie question when it comes to adventure bikes and this new HD. Do these engines that redline above 9000 rpm, have to have a high rpm to maintain their torque. I like this bike. I'll have to wait and see the riding reviews.
@sixthisoverdrive
3 жыл бұрын
The top end will be the horsepower coming through. I can’t remember the exact torque numbers, but they were high, somewhere in the 90s which is really good. The way they achieve both numbers is vvt or variable valve timing. I’m guessing you’ll have a lot of grunt down low, but once that vvt kicks in at around 6 or 7000 rpm you’ll feel a strong surge of power, much like a turbo. This will make the bike very fun on the tarmac, and if you keep the revs down, very manageable off road. Hope that helps.

Are the prices you put on the MSRP ones or??? Cause if you get the GS adventure at that price is alot of bike for the money and you don't need to add ANYTHING... Whereas the HD Dirt Glide is 20K as well MINUS the spoked wheels protection and a few other things aaaaand a smaller gas tank... I love that HD got into this segment but if you add all the stuff their new bike should have i.e. BMW do, then its NOT going to be able to compete... Based on the prices from the HD website... Love the tracer you got and especially that navy gray!!🤓🤓

Who cares? 560 is not that big of a deal. All I hear out of ADV riders is arguing over 20-30 lbs. Imagine thinking that a 3-5% weight difference is actually going to make you a better rider. ADV riders argue over the smallest things, this thing weighs 4oz more it is trash. This has .2 inches less suspension travel, the wheel is 1 inch larger or smaller than your preferred wheel. FFS 99% of ADV riders will NEVER push their bikes to the limits where any of that stuff matters.
