Thanks mate👍, i hope it can help a few out for sure, ridiculous design, still can understand wy they need to keep it in the tyank anyway, there's plenty of room elsewhere on the bike to hide a small pump...and placing an electic powered device, inside a tank of guzaline has always seemed sketchy to me..lol! Have a great week too and stay safe mate. D&Px

On my 2000 Road King you actually do have to force it a little. A year or two later they made the arm that the pump attaches spring loaded and hinged to go in easier. Very informative video.

The size of that pump was almost comical. After that install you should have no trouble building a ship in a bottle. Fuel injection is nice but so was a fuel delivery system powered by gravity, which hardly ever fails. Don't mind me. I'm just an old man who misses the old (simple) days. 😁 Cheers to you and Penny. ❤👍👍

Oh how I agree with your Sir! Bring back the days of choking in your garage when you run your bike for just 3 mins, fuel leaking out of the carbs through the overflow, vapour lock on a sunny day, taps leaking at the bottom of the tank, Happy Days lol But yes, you're right, with the cost of this pump, I could almost have bought a new S&S carb and they don't look like a miniature plastic oil refinery lol Have a wonderful week and stay safe! Hi sir. Yes, this thing of difficulty accommodating changes. As an old one, in the end I got used to the injection system. It is much more friendly, reliable, and easy to maintain. And this too: the emission of fuel vapors is so minimal that there is no more fuel smell in closed storage spaces. Learning this system is easy. Instead of all the adjustments there is a computer, detectors, and an automatic air valve instead of the choke. There is no longer a need for an operation called "carburetor cleaning". After you become friends with the injection system, you no longer want to go back to a carburetor.

That's an elaborate design solution. I've not owned many fuel injected bikes, but the ones I have all had square peg round hole syndrome for the pump and filter set up. I guess that's advancement of technology. I just acquired a modern ( 2012) 1.2 petrol turbo car/van that's got as much oomph as my 2.5 turbo diesel (2003) . And uses a quarter of the fuel. Even an old technophobe like me appreciates some advanced engineering! Peas n loaf both ✌️❤️

Hi Penny and Del. Great video. Yay - part five of four! Question the first: Del, are you speaking of Imperial gallons, which are 4.55L, or US gallons, which are 3.78L? I suspect the latter given that the Harley is 'murican. Question the second - does Harley not provide a torque range for those three drain screws? Now for the comments. I've often mentioned my appreciation for your massive behind-the-scenes workload of producing polished videos as you do. But a word on you as a presenter, Del - you seem to have perfected the pace and clarity of speech needed to produce entertaining, informative and understandable videos, even for a commonwealth outlier like me! Take care, dear friends. Be well and ride safe.

Hi buddy.. i think it's purely the Americans who refer to the tanks as 3 or 5 gallon, because yes, they must be quantifying them in US gallons, and even then only very aproximately, the smaller one is 12 liters, and this one 18 liters.. so they're both a little short of a real gallon, and none of it helped by the volumetric space taken up by this ridiculous pump and filter assembly.. ...And thank you so much for such kind words of support and encouragement, after 14 years at this i guess if become comfortable in front of a camera, there was a time when i didn't even want to face the lense, just do it annonymously like some others do. but with a little planning, and jotting down a few notes, i usually get it right enough to pass as ok.. Thank you again and take care too. hope you're getting some spring weather now too. !

You’re right… few of us never seen fuel pump for Harleys and hated the idea of being in bottom with risk of leaks if not installed right. I’m surprised using Vaseline as I thought it’s bad for rubbers which has acid in them? Good lesson here!! Copy/paste… Will Vaseline damage rubber seals? Concerning vaseline, it is a petroleum derivative. As mentioned above, hydrocarbons attack rubber. If you coat rubber gaskets with petroleum jelly to preserve them, you will get the opposite effect. After a few months, the rubber will become porous and you will need to change all your joints.
@Moonfleet41
4 ай бұрын
Look a little further...... the above is true, With the acception of rubber seals designed to seal petrol joints..they are made from a compound designed to be impervious to gasoline..(like those on your fuel pump or carburetor diaphragm) obviously, or they wouldn't do their job very well aye..!
@Goldwing1500rider

I did looked further after this…and different views out there. Materials has changed I’m sure, I’m skeptical bout use of Vaseline. I’m olde school but would feel more safer using silicone grease. Your thoughts on silicone grease? Thus, I been questioning that for years. Btw…. I agree reviews taken 1/2 gallon space. 😅

Good grief; for the last 100 years, each tank came with a fuel tap, maybe a wire gauze filter & the odd banjo along with some gravity, dealt with the rest - & everyone got fed on time, now however . . . Thanks to an all-electric fitted kitchen & some Orwellian proctologist's idea of how to mount a stomach pump, there's sod all room left in the pantry for food! Talk about total lack of KISS. Heaven help next century's restorers eh? . . OEM plastic parts? Aye, right, good luck - try Mars : )
