The deal is that custom frame building worked better for racing Trackmaster frames were probably cheaper and more adjustable than anything HD was building The motors themselves were purely made great by the tuners for each team Being an HD factory rider helped but others had a real chance to win on a given day in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s Springer would still catch a win here and there in the 90’s on a privateer team. Nowadays if you ain’t Indian Factory You don’t stand much chance ... and where did all their good tuners cone from? Old XR teams, with the exception of Johnson who could even win on factory machines after he left KAWA Big money has ruined flattrack Like it does everything else

my buddy delano lucas built these bikes for the street, he sold one to my brother ,in which i was able to talk him out of it for a year, that bike handled so good it was bad ass ,it had a 80 inch sportster engine in it with actel cyclinders ,linenweber cam and maqgneto with aq 44 mm mikuni carb ,kick started first time every time, the bike ran flawlessly every day i had it ,except the voltage regulater bracket broke from vibration fatigue, this bike would power wheelie just twisting the throttle slowly fore blocks ,i ran a 11.70 @ byron dragway standing it up in 2nd gear and backing out of it and getting back in it again@123 mph, it was the most fun i have ever had on a bike. i could race a stock kawi 900 and from a 40 mph punch in high gear it would pull the rice burner and he could take of in any gear he wanted to , id still beat him , except for chuck lagrane on his rickman chassis 900 kawi ,but we went neck and neck up to about 140 then he pulled me , i ran out of gears, he wanted to buy the bike bad , not for sale

The reason why it sounds like that: it has a twingled 45 degree v twin. What this means is instead of the 405/315 degree firing order of your street harley davidsons and buells, you get the 675/45 firing order which means, for those of you bad at math, both cylinders fire in the same crank revolution, whereas on the street bikes there is only one cylinder firing per 360 degree revolution. This is why the bike has a carburetor for each cylinder, as it is very hard to fuel both cylinders with one carb when they fire only 45 degrees of crank rotation apart from each other.
