The Timeless All Stars The Subway jazz club, Cologne (Köln), 1986 Invitation Harold Land (tenor saxophone) Cedar Walton (piano) Buster Williams (bass) Billy Higgins (drums)
Harold Land has been one of my heros since I was 15. I am 78 and a tenor player still.

People throw the word 'underrated' around a lot but Land, to me, is the most underrated musician in all of jazz music. Literally unbelievable talent.

I don’t think he’s underrated he’s just not as well-known. I’ve never read review where a critic was not impressed by him or even more importantly I’ve never heard anyone say that at. For whatever reason he was just not as well-known but he certainly was not underrated . It’s an insult to put his name with that term.

@@jazzyjones6375 I agree. But I think his West Coast roots just kept him from big NYC clubs and contracts.

You’re right. What a wonderful legacy these giants of jazz have left for us. How can anyone listen to the trash called music today when a masterpiece like this is just waiting to be heard?

We see that Hutch and Curtis Fuller were there, too! Bobby shows his appreciation for Harold, who had been a longtime partner of his, there at the end. What a gig!

Harold Land makes every record, importantly those where is he is not the leader, 10x better. The work he did with Bobby H is unreal.

They did a good job amplifying that cheap piano. It sounds very tinny but at least it's in tune.
