In the 1990-1991 Gulf War Marine Corps AV-8Bs were tasked with the role of supporting the ground troops by bombing & strafing Iraqi units such as artillery, command centres and armoured vehicles. Being guided by FACs (Forward Air Controllers) to their targets, Marine Corps Harriers accurately and effectively destroyed Iraqi targets, most notably in the attack on Khafji.
