If you didn't pick up on it, this story is a critique of Blair, Bush, and the Iraq war. Monsters wearing the skin of politicians that are supposed to represent us, lying about the discovery of WMDs as a pretence to launch an attack on the planet and cause destruction. RTD was a supporter of Blair originally, but was very angered by everything that happened in that period, and wrote about it quite a lot. There's another story in a later series written by him that can be taken as a satire on the "Blair effect".

Yep, this was not long after 2002, when Bush lied about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction, and Blair fell for it hook, line and sinker, apparently blind to the fact that Republicans will always make up a false excuse to kill people.

I notice you keep mentioning the perception filter. To clarify, the clue is in the name. "Perception" and "Filter". If someone wants to see it, then they can, plain as day. Its just something to help it go unnoticed. Imagine you were looking for a bright pink shirt in a crowd of people. You'd quickly pick out all the pink tops you could see, but if you stared blankly over the crowd you'd likely not notice any of them.

Perception filter doesn’t render a thing or person invisible. It just greatly decreases noticeability. Once you know it the perception filter doesn’t work well. So when the TARDIS lands people see it but don’t really give it any mind (unless they are Mrs Flood😊)

Not the Doctor being an abusive boyfriend to Rose at the end. He knows exactly what to say to get her to ditch Mom and come to the Tardis. Jackie being terrified of the danger of this lifestyle and even Mickey fearing for Rose. But none of it matters because Rose is happy. I love this dynamic so much, a Doc/Companion should have a bit of drama and conflict to make things interesting. 15 and Ruby never argued in the whole damn season. I just wanted one big moment where we could really see Ruby shine in contrast to 15.

There wasn't a Chief Mouser in 2005. Humphrey retired in 1997. Chancellor Alistair Darling's cat Sybil was Chief Mouser from 2007-2009, though of course Doctor Who diverged quite a bit from real history by apparently killing off Tony Blair in this story.
